Just ask living social for a refund! The wines here are good. The setting is nice. Just never bring expired groupon type deals here ever.

Our wine club, 12 strong, had Groupons to visit the Penoach Winery. We had to come during the week and since we were a larger group, Stan and Joanie Olson opened the winery just for us. They are ordinarily only open week-ends when they often host special events such as concerts or grape pickings. Visit www.penoach.com to learn about them. We had an excellent tasting on the large front porch, with full explanations of each wine, the grapes involved, the history of each type and more. Stan is a veritable font of knowledge about grapes and wines and isn't afraid to tell it like it is including things he doesn't like! No snobbery here; no pretense at being the "all knowing" just darn nice Iowa people who love what they do and want to share it. We all bought wines to take home. Iowa is becoming well know for it's wineries; this is one of the Must-See locations. While the week-end is the best time to visit so you don't miss the events, we had a great time, more low-key and very informative.

Had a Groupon for wine tasting for 4 which included glasses and a free bottle of wine. This winery is inside an old remodeled barn. We tasted almost every wine they offered --10-15. We were required to have reservations for our Groupon, which we made. There were several other people that had stopped in for tastings without reservations. It was very very busy, however the owners did a great job accommodating everyone. For being in a barn, it was very small ---they must use the remaining space for storage. They sell wine---this is not a wine themed gift shop. Had outdoor seating on a side porch. A large group had decided to have a picnic on the porch, so was crowded. The owners were very nice and let us walk thru their grape vines on our own and answered several questions we had about getting started in the wine business. Grape vines were very well maintained and varieties labeled. They make and bottle their own wine. Would go back again!

Stan and his wife Joanie are the owners and from the moment you step out of your car they make you feel very welcome at their winery. Stan will share anything you want to know about how they make their wines and just about anything else you ever wanted to know about winemaking in Iowa. Of course, the best part is sampling and buying their wine. My favorite is Rustic Red. They also host opportunities to pick grapes during harvest as well as music and food throughout the year. This winery is a hidden gem of Adel in Dallas County and shouldn't be missed.

This winery really exceeded our expectations. We were staying at a cabin with some friends and discovered this place on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The owners were pleasant and more than happy to help us taste a variety of wines before purchasing a couple bottles each. Until recently, I was unaware that Iowa had anything to offer for wineries, and this place is definitely worthwhile.

Had a friend in town from MN last Sunday, so we started at the Farmers Market downtown Des Moines where we tried several samples from several local wineries. By far our favorite was Penoach, and we ventured to Adel that same afternoon. I'm not usually a big fan of our local wines, but Penoach had some really fantastic choices. I favor red, and the Frontenac was right up my alley. Also liked the Rustic Red blend and the Farmhouse White especially. We shared a Frontenac Rose on the porch and it was a beautiful, breezy day for July. Agree that the family owners are incredibly friendly, and we will be back to visit them again. Thank you!

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon around 4:30pm (closing time is posted as 5pm). The tasting room was packed so we waiting on the porch until the crowd had dissapated. Our short wait was well worth it as we left with a total of 10 bottles of wine, 4 boxes of wine-a-rita mix and 4 wine glasses! Let's just say the wine was delicious and we had a great time visiting with the owners. We'll definitley be back, especially since they don't sell Penoach Wines at our local Hy-Vee in Council Bluffs. Oh, and we didn't leave until after 5:30, but we never felt rushed...such great hospitality!

Visited on a whim while visiting Des Moines, and after the other wineries in the area (all of which are rather good) - Penoach wins for location, friendliness, and taste of the wine. The vintner was willing to show us the steps in production and walk us around the property. Be sure to check out the grain bin/silo combination. If you have the time visit this winery.
