I love going to visit this place. In the middle of a city there's an absolute Secret Garden. The trees are amazing, my favourite being the weeping willow with a lovely bench under it's waving branches. There are so many wonderful, gorgeous flowers everywhere, the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. It's the perfect place to go for a bit of stress relief and escape from the hustle and bustle of the world.
It's a bit hard to find, but this place has beautiful trees, plants, and shrubs. A butterfly garden, too! An easy walk, too!
The Bickelhaupt Arboretum or "Arb" as it is affectionately known, is the single best spot to get out in nature in the city of Clinton. More than a park, it feels like a nature preserve right in the middle of town. The 14-some acres are laid out on hilly terrain with a small creek winding through it. Visitors can stroll through the grounds free of charge and relax on benches while taking in the vista of mature trees, shrubs and plants. Most have handy name markers attached for the curious visitor. My two favorite spots at the Arb: the blooming hillside of daffodils under snowy white magnolia and crabapple trees in the spring, and the little bridge at the top of the waterfall. Smelling the fresh pine-scented air and hearing the flow of water reminds me of Colorado! The Arb offers events to the public throughout the year including butterfly tag and release, seasonal events and a free arts series on the lawn each summer.
We found ourselves with a couple hours to spare and found a brochure at the visitor's center. We had a lovely relaxing walk through the trees at the Arboretum. The variety of conifers is outstanding.
Citizens of Clinton a very lucky to have this beautiful arboretum in town. The staff is very knowledgable and almost all school aged children in town get the chance to go on a field trip to learn more about plants, trees and conservation. If you are in the surrounding area and have some time stop by and check it out. You will enjoy it more on a nice day. Many photographers use the aboretum for prom/senior/family photographs.
One of the first things we did in Clinton was to visit the Arboretum, very peaceful, I enjoyed seeing all the different types of tree! Very nice people
We attended a wedding here in June and were pretty impressed. The grounds were lovely. It was awfully warm, so we didn't walk around as much as we should have, but there's always next time.
My husband and I spent almost three hours walking the grounds, and taking photos. Beautiful and peaceful!
Beautifully laid out but small. We did our family pictures here and enjoyed the experiance. Not a large variety of flora.
This is a beautiful place to enjoy being outside. Our girls and I try to visit once a month just to see what's blooming. Once we met one of the groundhogs that live in the area. If you need a break from the hustle and bustle, the arboretum is the perfect spot!
If you have a day when you feel really stressed, take a walk in the arb. Nothing like it.
Bickelhaupt is a beautiful free arboretum, especially considering Clinton's size. Bickelhaupt features fourteen acres of well tended lawns, trees and gardens with a creek running through. We spent most of our time among the conifers and found the grounds well laid out and most trees, shrubs, and plants nicely identified. A visit to their website will give you a good idea of what to expect. I wish I had had time to take a tour.
We visited the Arboretum on a quiet weekday afternoon in late September and were impressed. The marked trails guided us through a spectacular fall foliage display. We cannot wait to visit again this spring and catch the Magnolias in bloom.
