Definitely a party place for those over the age of 21. Had a lot of fun going down the river. Company was very professional in getting us to the river by bus and the bus driver gave us our rules for the day. Very well organized with tying our coolers to us and by sending down a trash bin as well. The campground definitely had loud drunk people to wee hours of the morning...apparently no one makes them shut up at a certain point. Very fun that they offer a band at the end of the night - definitely an added bonus. Port -a-potties were gross by Sunday morning with no toilet paper (I recommend bringing your own) but there is a shower facility on site. Be sure to bring a grill, tent, food and plenty of beer! I also recommend bringing old pair of sunglasses as they might get lost down the river and be sure to remember water shoes as my pair of flip flops didn't quite cut it and I forgot to bring other shoes. Be ready to have fun and go with the flow! No need getting upset over something as relaxing as tubing!
What a great trip! Went during all-star break and had a blast....we were there during the week and the staff went completely out of their way to make sure we had a good time...Fun, knowledgable staff made it well worth the drive....BTW the food at the office was great.....would do it again in a heartbeat....ps we were a small group of friends in our early 40's.
I just wanted to float down the river with my family and enjoy the day. Poor equipment, people throwing up in the river, then rude bus driver. Sorry I just can't put my family through this again next year I loved doing this just not here any more.
I have been here several times. But, I was in my 20's also. If your plan for the weekend is to get pretty drunk and party, this is definitely a place to go. They do have electric hook up in some areas of the campground, but most of the campsites are non electric. If you get there late or don't request a certain spot, you get the middle of the field which equals no trees/no shade. Iowa summers are crazy. It can be 110 degrees or 60. Bring firewood with you; they sell it there, but kinda pricey. There is only one flushing toilet, the rest are portapotties. Two private showers, and two outside showers to get sand off of you. I guess I'm a "girly" camper and I like to have an available flushing toilet and private shower when I want. I really want one after getting out of the river. But of course so does everyone who is camping there. So there is always a line and no hot water for the shower. If I had kids, I would not take them here on a weekend. Too much drinking (possible nudity) The weekends seem like the "20something" crowd. Other reviewers say go with a group, I agree. You have to wear water shoes or athletic shoes while you are in the river. No sandals. There are sharp rocks that can cut your feet up.
I am so sorry you did not enjoy your self during your visit .I am sure others with you had some fun. Sounds to me like the younger crowd made you uncomfortable. We have a state fair special in August for Little kids and Grand parents this maybe a better date for you to visit Rock-n-Row. The Camp Ground is groomed regularly with the utmost care, but a drought will make the grass brown and dry, hardly a corn filed. Sun shine is a great thing for people who Love being in the great out of doors camping and tubing, There is about 1000 yards of tree line all around the campground, but it is best to come on a Friday to get a choice spot for the weekend. Now if you got yelled then you were breaking a rule! Rules are for yours and others saftey. You should treat others as you would expect to be treated. We have been pleasing customers since 1994 and 99% of them are repeat customers. We do please most of the people most of the time but not all the people all the time, sorry you we the minority. Rock On!Tracy
This trip is too much fun for the kids, and bring lots of drinking water. The staff is more hospitable than I have ever seen for a campground/tubing expedition. They know the river well, so you do not float for 2 hours then get out. They have multiple drop off locations so you float 5-7 hours depending on how fast the river is moving. The facilities are kept very clean, they have bands on most weekends, flat campgrounds, electricity, firewood, the works. They cook food which is fairly cheap too. I will definitely be going back next summer.
