Super historical experience for the entire family. Great way for people to see history in action. Great food, pottery, metal works, baskets, and jewelry just to name a few things that are great about the Fort.

As a child I climbed the walls of the old fort with my siblings dressed in Daniel Boone garb. Now I hobble and edge up the wall slowly and carefully in an attempt to recapture my childhood. This is the only fort in America that was built to protect one tribe of Indians from two other tribes of Indians. While no actual battles were ever fought here, there were many a simulated battle fought on these grounds during my childhood years. Walking the grounds allows the visitor to step back in time to the frontier years when Iowa was in its infancy as a state. This is a frequent stop to share a moment in American history and to wander the spacious fields of green.
