There is always something happening on Court Ave. From the farmers market on Saturday mornings. With lots of vendors to choose from to music and even flash mobs to watch. Then at night there are restaurants and bars for the night life. Thought out the srping and summer there are lots of different events happening all the time. Here is a link to see up coming events in Des Moines and the Court Avenue area. http://www.catchdesmoines.com/events/
Court Avenue is one fabulous eating establishment after another. Depending upon your tastes, you can feast on Italian cuisine or a great steak. The site is also the location of a great farmers' market in the summer. Very near the State Historical Museum and the capitol
A 5 block area that has a number of good eating places, bars, play house and side walk seating. You can party or just set outside and watch the interesting people that are going from place to place. You will find all ages however the ages you will find most is between 21 and 35.
Court Avenue has lots of bars, restaurants and convenient parking. Loved the Saturday Farmers Market which is a prolific collection of healthy and interesting vendors. The Market covers multiple blocks along Court Avenue and the side streets. Vendors include fresh veggies/fruits, bakeries, interesting quality decor items, jewelry, clothing, and many local food vendors. It's fun to top off a visit with a visit to Court Avenue Brew Pub's Bloody Mary bar.
I've been to farmers markets, but never one this large and clean. Must have taken up 5 blocks!!!! If I weren't a backpack traveler I would have filled up a bag larger than the one that held all my belongings. Very friendly merchants made this a great place to hang out and people watch. Crowds were large here.
My husband and I enjoyed the court ave area immensely do to the recommendation of the concierge of our hotel, from sushi to spaghetti, and from dance club to sports bars court ave is well planned and organized, with a brilliant Farmers Market on Saturdays.
Plenty of pubs and restaurants and parking. Walk to the river and downtown. A welcome visual relief from the too modern boxy downtown buildings. Great when the farmers market is in swing. But not worth a journey by any means.
The farmers market had fresh produce that included tomatoes, watermelon, peaches, apples, homemade breads etc, cut flowers.
Court Avenue is a great place to explore. Many different restaurants and pubs to chose from. Weekends are full of excitement.
Everything is in walking distance. You don't need to drive to bar hop and there are some fun clubs and lots of other people. We like to go eat dinner and stay all night for the fun festivities.
Court avenue is a nice area to hang out. Rent the bikes to see a little more of downtown. You can find the bikes at the east end of the bar section of court avenue. Saturday mornings they have a great farmers market--definitely worth checking out
It's actually a lot of fun once you get down there on a Friday or Saturday night. It's pretty safe (there's always police about to ensure that) it's a decent atmosphere as long as the weather is nice!
If you are looking for a great sports bar and grill to grab some food, a dance club to get your groove on, or a honky tonk country bar, they are all within minutes of each other and are all fun places to go on Friday and Saturday nights. Never disappointed with Court Avenue. They don't have something for everyone, but if you can't find something fun to do on your night out here, then you really aren't giving it a whole lot of effort!
This area has completely changed over the last 15 or so years. It has seen great growth as new restaurants and bars have moved into the area. It is a great place to park the car and be able to walk to dozens of great places to hang out. Also, if you are staying down down you can take the sky walk all they way to Court Avenue Brewing company that is in the heart of the area.Highly recommend for any one visiting Des Moines!
There are a nice selection of restaurants on and near Court Avenue in Des Moines. Spaghetti Works and the Hessen House to name two of my favorites. Grab some friends and go visit during the upcoming holiday season. You will see decorations and lights and can take a carriage ride as well.
