At the spring equinox, the Messier Marathon occurs in the galaxy. The Bruneau Dunes Observatory supported by the local astronomy society provides hands on viewing with the large observatory telescope and other telescopes setup to observe this phenomenon till very late at night. Also, interesting astronomy lectures on Friday and Saturday night at the Education Center.

Unless you are an insomniac who needs a good boring lecture about star gazing that you won't get to experience here don't do it! I felt really sorry for people with kids. It was brutal! The telescopes are very weak and you won't see anything incredible. Skip,it! Waste of time and money.

This is a great little observatory. The staff is informative and the black skies reveal lots of stars not seen in a city.Rent a cabin in the park and spend the night.

Excellent place to take the family. To just see as a couple or just a day trip. Wonderful adventure!! Must see!

We attended two different presentations at the observatory - one titled "What Is Not a Comet" and one on Mars Exploration. Both were presented by a local Astronomy Professor from Boise. If you are a science or space buff - this is for you. Afterwards, we viewed the stars and planets in the night sky through the large observatory telescope and a number of other telescopes setup by the Astronomy Club. A very interesting and learning experience.

We were camping in the state park and went to the Observatory for their presentation and then to look through the big telescope and some smaller ones. The presentation was very interesting. I learned stuff I never knew before. The stars were bright that night. I saw Saturn and other heavenly bodies I've never seen before. The one recommendation would be to hang out long enough that the bulk of folk have left. It's easier to get telescope time.
