We went out on a Sunset Tour for Mother's Day. We've all had experience kayaking, so we had no problems maneuvering our kayaks thru some tight marsh areas on the Assawoman Bay. We saw lots of birds and our tour guide was great at answering our questions and pointing out interesting things to see. We had so much fun on the Saturday guided tour, that the next day we just went out by ourselves with just a map and pick up point from Coastal Kayak and that was even more fun! Definitely a great place to rent a kayak with knowledgeable staff, clean gear, and great service!

Our family of five had a great experience with Coastal Kayak. We rented Paddle Boards and Kayaks. We all wanted to try the Paddle Boarding for the first time and this was a great place to try it for the first time with the calm waters of the bay. The staff was very nice and informative. We plan to return on our next trip to the area.

We were a group of 12 women with kayaking experience ranging from none to a lot. By the end of our two hour tour, thanks to our two excellent guides, we were all handling our kayaks with relative ease in the face of rising wind and chop. A fun morning -- we learned a lot about kayaking and the natural history of this incredibly beautiful area.

On the day of our trip, this outfit must have been understaffed or overbooked. One of our kayakers made it very clear that this she did not have experience and was assured all would be well. She first made a comment after being placed in her kayak that the back rest did not feel right to the male guide. He nonchalantly told her to lean back in the seat and was off to "lead" the tour.. Twenty minutes into the tour the female quide noticed that my friend looked wrong in boat and adjusted her seat. This was somewhat helpful but 30 minutes later she was struggling once again. It was not until 1 and 1/2 hours into the tour did the guide noticed that my friend was never informed about the foot pegs and how they needed to be positioned. I felt that this outfit was negligent in placing people in the boats and all this aggravation could have been avoided. My friends money was returned, but only after complainants from me. If you are going to advertise no experience required, you must take time to put your clients in boats properly.

Three friends and I just returned from a great paddle with Jim. Jim was informed on nature around us- birds, plant life, etc, and helpful on a recommendation for lunch (Crab Factory) and interesting shipwreck museum. It was a fun outting!

The high ratings for Coastal Kayak are well deserved. I rented a single kayak and was on the water for over 1.5 hours. They charged me a measly $15! Saw egrets and a great blue heron. Will try to join a guided tour next time I'm in the area. Great find.

Lovely time kayaking with our knowledgeable guides Todd and Mary. Saw a plethora of wildlife on the water as well as on land, (pelicans, egrets, blue herons and wild horses) watched a horseshoe crab have lunch (creepy, in a good way), took in beautiful scenery, and paddled our crabcake dinners off. ;) Great time. Did the Bald Cypress Tour with Todd last year, which was also outstanding. Even with the weather being broiling hot and humid, it was still a great time. Highly recommended.

We took the Ecotour up near Bethany. Our tour guide was Heather. She was well-informed and very positive with all of us. 4 solo kayaks and 2 tandems in the group. Well-equipped. Great pace. Great tour. First time kayaker and I will do it again. Tour is slightly over 2 hours with an island break in the middle.

First time kayaking. We rented two doubles and thought an hour would be too long, but how quickly the time went. You can stay out longer no one is rushing you. They recommend water shoes. The only time my feet hit the water was getting in and out of the kayak. It was a fun experience. Good for families and especially those with teens.

My wife and I recently took our 15 year old granddaughter and her friend on Coastal Kayak's eco tour to Burton's Island, which is a 10 minute drive from Bethany Beach. We kayaked in 4 single kayaks. Our guide was excellent. There was some basic instruction and he made sure to show us the wildlife of the area, including osprey, herons, egrets, horseshoe crabs, fiddler crabs, terrapins. It was a 2 1/2 hour tour which required moderate exertion to complete. There was a short stop on an island which gave us a chance to get out of the kayak and stretch. Our guide did say that fairly often he helps to tow some one back to Burton's island if they can't make it on their own. TIP: The cost per person was $50 but if you register on line you can get a code for a $5 discount per person. The Delaware State Park system also operates a tour of Burton's island and it is $35 a person, but I'm not sure it is really a better deal. They were there at the same time we were and we noticed that they had a much larger group, left after us and were back before us.

My friend and I joined two other people and Todd, our guide, for a tour of the salt marsh in single kayaks. We started with a short intro to kayaking. We then paddled along viewing osprey, herons, oystercatchers, cormorants, turtles (well, just their heads before they ducked under), and more. Not buggy until we got off on an island to view a bit of wildlife - then a few horseflies, and also some when we got back. A very enjoyable time with a knowledgeable and helpful guide.

We did the 2 1/2 tandem and with a light wind it was a little difficult away from shore. Workers were helpful and equipment was in good condition.

This is a great little outfit right across the line into Fenwick Island. Always check for weather reports, as if you are new to this (or are taking young kids who are new to kayaking) you want a day that's not too hot, not too cold and not too windy. Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, hats and swimsuits. You will get wet. Not soaked, just wet. Bring a change of clothes and towel if you need to "deck change." Good shoes that you don't mind getting wet help; flip flops won't do it here. There are single kayaks as well as doubles. The doubles can hold 2.5... meaning, you can fit an adult, a young child (6/7) and a wee one (2/3). Free life jackets provided, but if your wee one is on the smaller size (less than 20 lbs) bring your own; Coastal's will be too big. Adult and kid size paddles provided. They even have a small wooden paddle so your wee ones can "paddle" too. The staff gives you an overview of how to go, stop, turn each direction; how to hold the paddle; how to exit and enter the kayak. They'll recommend which way to paddle out (into the wind) so you've got the wind at your back when you're coming in and a bit more tired. You can sign up for 1-2 hours. The bay is beautiful, safe and has a lot of wildlife to observe. There's a port-a-potty and foot wash, but not much else. Feel free to bring water with you on the kayak. Wet bags also provided for phones, keys, wallets, etc. Coastal also provides sailing, SUP rentals/lessons, but we have not done those. Staff is very friendly, helpful and resourceful.

We rented a double kayak and on the way up the bay, we had no problem because we stay up to the shore but when we went more to the middle, it was super fun with the small waves although it was difficult going back (we had a good laugh as everyone else seemed ok but us).We saw shoe crabs (alive!), a heron and another bird nesting. Really pretty.
