The trail is great and it is beautiful. It is a must do for the day traveler. The trail has lots of alltitude changes and very little flat areas. A great hike for a couple of hours. My advise is to avoid the middle of the day. The sun is brutal
Beautiful scenery. You got the stream on one side, the hills on the side and in the end you are rewarded with this fantastic natural bridge: the Hickman. It is not a very difficult walk but very satisfying. I really enjoyed every minute of it. It took me about 2 hrs, stopping to take pictures and looking at the sceneries. Highly recommended.
The Hickman Bridge Trail is a short hike (2 miles round trip) that is beautiful. The park classifies it as moderate because it is fairly steep at the beginning and you are on stone switchbacks. It levels out and truly is more moderate overall but be aware that there are some rocks to navigate. We are “no spring chickens” and did not have any difficulty on the trail. We were there in September and did not see many people so that was nice (not that we don’t like people but you know what I mean!). The bridge is beautiful and you can sit on the rocks and marvel at the view. I know it’s only 2 miles round trip but don’t rush…you’ll want to enjoy the view.
The walk is over one kilometre but worth the effort with the initial part along side the red cliffs and the river. The scenery as all other scenery in Capitol Reef is beautiful and the autumn colours in November were great
We walked this trail which was supposed to be 1.3 miles(?). It seemed to take forever, going up and down and up and down. However, it was beautiful to see the Hickman Bridge just expect it to take a little longer than you would think.
our kids did it, great hike opens up to a beautiful view. Along the way there are some smaller arches below that the kids can play in
Previous to doing this walk my family and I couldn't see the beauty in Capitol Reef (it's a geologist's paradise!), but this walk showed us that it was worth leaving the road and exploring the trials. This shirt hike is not particularly steep or strenuous, but gets you close up to a beautiful arch away from the crowds of arches national park. Worth a couple of hours if you're in Capitol Reef National Park
Worth the walk and you did not have to visit Arches to see an amazing arch. Not a bad hike to get here.
We did this hike around 2PM only passed a few hikers. Its a short trail (2 miles r/t). It starts out along the Fremont river and then makes an ascent into a steeper section where you eventually end at the Hickman Bridge. The bridge is magnificent and the trail allows you to walk underneath and back around it. It was a nice break after driving from Denver.
This is a very nice short (2 miles) hike. The trail is nice and you get a good view of the Dome on the way. You will be able to get good pictures at Hickman Bridge. We had our 9 and 13 year old kids and it was just right for them.
Worth doing as a short ike but usually more people as it is short. A good introduction to desert hiking in and out and around places. Some sandy areas and some rocky.
This very short hike (2 miles round trip) in Capitol Reef National Park is excellent. There is little elevation gain and loss. The Hickman Bridge at the end of the hike is amazing. I have shown my iPhone picture to friends who always think it's Arches National Park. Capitol Reef National Park is incredible. I have now been to all of the National Parks in Utah and loved each one!The hiking is great.
This is a one mile hike, a bit strenuous if you're not used to the elevation AND it's 90+ degrees. It's definitely worth the walk though!
The Hickman Bridge is a must see while at Capital Reef, its a easy hike. It also branches of to other hikes if you want something a litt;e longer.
The hike to Hickman Bridge is 2 miles RT with 600 feet of elevation gain. The trail begins rather steeply on stone step switchbacks and then levels out a little. I would classify this hike as moderate overall because of all the ups and downs. There are lots of rocks to navigate around, so be careful not to trip, especially going back down. I would do this hike early in the day to avoid crowds and heat. There is almost no shade on this trail, so remember your sunscreen!
