Beatiful building, especially inside (magnificient lobby). You can watch a movie about Joseph Smith or go to the top floor to have a meal with a nice view of downtown SLC.
This building used to be a grand hotel--the Hotel Utah. This structure is owned by the LDS Church, and you can learn so much about the Church and its history here. We have eaten at both restaurants on the top floor and would give them both 5-star reviews, too. Stop by the Legacy Theater to see a moving film about the history of the Church.
The outside is under renovation of some kind with scaffolding at the moment, but you can still see what a fantastic structure this is. Inside is pretty glorious...very ornate and well kept, and folks were very friendly inside. They helped us get to the roof restaurant and even took our picture in the lobby afterwards. Lovely place to see.
We did a family history search here, took a funny souvenir photo, and had some cheap lunches at the Nauvoo Cafe. They also have a huge theater showing a movie about Mormons. Great facility!
This building is stunning. The artwork and details are breath taking. Everyone is welcomed. I recommend it to everyone even if you're not of the LDS religion. It can be a bit pricey if you're thinking of having a wedding here. When we had our's we spent quite a bit For such a small cermony. If you have the chance to eat at hte Roof I hightly recommend it! Beautiful view and amazing food.
This is a beautiful building with three or four great restaurants. If you can make a reservation for the Roof. Don't leave without visiting the Family History center.
The first thing to do is reserve dinner on the top floor at either of the two restaurants. You will have a birds eye view of temple square, which is breathe taking at night, especially during the holidays. The food is great as well. There are lot of things to see while there and the Mormon missionaries are pleasant and full of information.
We came here to have lunch at the Nauvoo Cafe (which was excellent), and ended up listening to some lovely piano music being played in the lobby of this old restored hotel. We watched the recent movie, Meet the Mormons, and thought the documentary portrayed their message well. Christian family values with outreach beyond their church. I think that is a true statement of who the LDS members wish to be known for. Although I had visited the Family History Library on the opposite end of Temple Square, I was not aware of the family-oriented room in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building that provides one on one computer assisted help for individuals wishing to explore their family history combined with a play area for children.
During Christmas season, it will have multiple choirs to perform Christmas songs every day. It is a really enjoyable moment of our trip to temple square. Sitting in the sofa in the lobby and listening to the beautiful songs.
watched meet the Mormons and enjoyed all of the history of the building. The roof and the cafe are terrific. we love this place
From the moment you walk into the building you are greeted by smiling faces. We came in December so they had a giant Christmas tree decorated to the nines and they had a choir singing on the 1st floor which sounded beautiful. The atmosphere was so warm and friendly. We were given a FREE tour which was very informative and told is a lot about the history of the building and what happens now. There are also some amazing sights to see from the 10th floor. You can take some wonderful pictures from here.
The building itself is okay, it's not mind blowing but for SLC, it's nice. The place I liked here was the family history centre. Whilst the kids played and did their own thing, the volunteers helped me trace back a few generations some family members. It has got me hooked and i learned a lot. There's toilets, fountains there etc. It's a nice and pleasant part of the Temple Square Experience.
I highly recommend the cafe directly behind the large statue of Mr. Smith, right off the lobby. Not expensive, and a very good selection of sandwiches and soups.
This is a very beautiful building with a lot of history. We attended a wedding reception on the ninth floor with a beautiful view of the Salt Lake City Temple. It's a breathtaking view when the lights come on. There is also a restaurant and a deli/cafe, which were nice options earlier in the day.
This museum is one of the best that gives the history of the Mormon church. It is so well done that you want to see it more than once.
