I have never cross country skied before, and I'm not that great at down hill skiing either. This is a great place to practice, with areas for more advanced trekking. I can't wait for the snow to keep coming so that I can get out there again! The summer has really nice mtn biking trails too!

right outsde of Fort Collins this park has fantastic open space scenery from the many easy hiking trails that lead to the western side of Horsetooth Reservoir, the late afternoon skies bring an array of colors and be sure keep a lookout for elk, bobcat, and many bird species. benches are positioned to just sit and relax as well. Gorgeous Colorado landscapes.

Well worth the short drive from Fort Collins for a hike and dogs are allowed on the trails. Scenic views, waterfalls, and plenty of choices for places to hike.

It is a beautiful drive to get here from either Loveland or Fort Collins where you pass through Horsetooth Mountain Open Space with views of the Reservoir. I only had a little time but enjoyed driving through the park and checking out the Waterfall Trail. This must be stunning in the spring when the snow melts. I had hoped to check out the mountain bike park and trails but Mother Nature did not cooperate.

I am surprised there aren't more reviews here.....so I feel I should talk about it a bit as a local. This state park is nestled between Horsetooth Reservoir to the east and the National Forest to the west. It has trails down to the water where you can fish, trails that run north and south through the grassy valley in between the hog-backs, and trails that take you up the foothills to wonderful views of the city of Fort Collins and the plains beyond. The trails are open to hikers, cyclists, and horses. I have used them for all three activities. I know birders who enjoy looking for birds year-round here, and trail runners who find the access close and the terrain challenging. You can get to great 2-4 mile, one way, trails that have both the length and the vertical challenge that helps one keep in shape and train for other higher more difficult hikes. Most hikes are moderate to slightly difficult, if you count the rock scrambling at the top. This is also a great place to see wild flowers in the spring, some colors in the fall, and I enjoy doing some nature scene photography in this area. The daily fee is $7.00, an annual pass is $70.00 for the year and good at all Colorado State Parks. This is a gem in our own backyard here in Fort Collins that many don't take the time to enjoy. If you go you will see that it is a wonderful place to get to elevations around 7000 feet fairly quickly considering the 30 short minutes time it takes to drive there from most places in Fort Collins.

We took a day trip toward Lory State parks north of Horsetooth Reservoir with a friend from Colorado. It was a lovely ride with really beautiful viewsThe sceneries of the river, the forest where you can hike or bike, was really pleasant. Just west of the city of Fort Collins... It is a easy access and the reservoir is offering more than just a view! families and friends are happy to share the space and beauty

Lory is a State Park that is just north of and adjacent to Horsetooth Reservoir. It has great hiking, fishing and camping. It's another one of the great State Parks that serves mostly a specific area, this one Ft. Collins.
