Once you're done playing in or around BV and realize there's not much else to do downtown, I recommend killing time at Deerhammer. The staff is great (how much do you want to know about bourbon and gin?) and the microdistilled spirits are tasty. There's a nice food truck parked next door and the patio is a great place to people watch, play cards or catch some live music if you're lucky enough.

The Deer Hammer mixed drinks combine interesting ideas into fascinating flavors you'll remember and come back for even if you usually choose 'house' brand liquor just to save a buck. Here you'll TASTE the whiskey right through the crazy mixtures and get to appreciate the inventiveness of both. It's a 7$ drink that you remember the taste of and come back for. The whiskey is good straight - really good - and you should make a point to have a glass that way and savor the craftsmanship that goes into this small-batch flavor. My palate isn't that trained but I would say less charred than most American whiskeys but not sweet like Canadian or as salty as Scotch. Just a great match of smooth flavors and little aftertaste. Then move on to the mixed concoctions... like sweet? The High Roller matches coconut with fruit and almond and lets the whiskey shine through.. a sweet drink for people who LIKE the taste of whiskey straight up but need some sugar in their veins. I went in just to sample the whiskey and go somewhere else but ended up having several menu items and spending most of the night talking about them with locals and other tourists as it's quiet but cozy and a really friendly atmosphere and you'll easily talk about the flavors with whoever you sit next to. Deerhammer is a must when in Buena Vista! The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. Their whiskey was outstanding!

This is a quaint distillery with a relaxed atmosphere. The white whiskey is exquisite and the staff is highly knowledgeable. This is a great place to go with a couple of friends or a date.

We walked up to this bar thinking we would get some fancy drinks. We sat down and saw they only had 4 drinks on the menu and were worried since we brought beer/wine drinkers with us BUT this turned out to be a highlight of our trip. One of the employees sat with us and told us all about the whiskey. He even let us all sample it! We figured we would order a drink to be nice but the drinks were delicious so we ended up ordering quite a few. As the temperature got cooler, one of the owners came out with complementary jackets to keep us warm. They could not have been nicer or more accommodating and the drinks were delicious. I highly recommend this place!!

Awesome people who run and make the whiskey! The whiskey is as good as any others out there. Lenny and Amy are the nicest people around and have some cool stories to tell.
