Free to see if you have time. Interesting photography, local history, and fossil exhibits, including a fossil-rock fireplace. My husband was OK with the dead animals and gun exhibits, as well. Our volunteer guide was helpful and not intrusive. He explained that a dinosaur museum had lost its building. Some of those fossils are on display here, but most are in storage pending a possible re-opening in another location.
They have some nice goodies to sort thru, they are a bit pricy as is the train ride in my opinion, but do realize their overhead is probably pretty high also. We'll come back next year to browse and probably do the farmers market at the other end of their lot.
We decided to check out this museum particularly for my son and his fascination for dinosaurs. We learned that the dinosaur depot had closed and all the a artifacts were moved here. Wasn't quite what we were expecting but there was plenty of cool history and facts to know about the area. We enjoyed seeing the Dino bones and fossils and learning about the wildlife history of Colorado. My huge disappointment was from the guide that we had to have in order to tour the 2 room museum. She sounded very bored and dull like she has said the same repeated boring speech over and over again. It just really turned me off and spent most of the time reading stuff on my own. The museum is free and worth checking out if you like history.
Although this museum is not that big and they are still adding to it, it is worth a hour of your time. They have dinosaur bones and fossils from the area. There is also a one of a kind fireplace that is worth the visit. There are people there to give you a tour. Our tour guide was great. It is free but donations are appreciated. Be warned.....you will need to walk up the stairs. No elevator.
