We walked a few miles of the trail in the 71st St area on a warm Winter day. The trail generally followed the river through rural/suburban land. We passed bikers, dog walkers, and joggers on a weekday morning. We were impressed to see a great horned owl in a tree not 25 feet off the trail, as well as a pair of hawks roosting a mile away. We will be back to check out other sections of the trail in the future.
The Poudre River Trail is an excellent place to go for a walk or run with family or friends. It is well marked and beautiful scenery
Great trail to bike or walk. Very safe and path is in good condition. Not overly traveled and continually improving in areas. You can jump on in several places and enjoy the birds and other wildlife that flock to the river.
on this paved trail that follows the river. Park near Centennial Village head North to the trail. Walking or biking, this clean and safe trail is modestly used and head east almost to I-25. Eventually it will hook into Fort Collins, but not quite yet.
My husband and I enjoy walking the Poudre River Trail, especially in the autumn. It is an easy walk, even with a bad knee. The trees along the Poudre River make it a very pleasant trail. I enjoy the red-winged blackbirds calling out as you walk by. The trail now has benches that you can sit on to rest, and drinking fountains when you get thirsty. Folks along the trail are friendly, and I especially enjoy the bend in the trail, near an escarpment of rocks, that is peaceful and shady.
We followed the advice on trip advisor and started at the red barn walking west. We were there on a Sunday morning. Path is in good condition and the setting is pretty but not breathtaking. Unfortunately the only wildlife we saw were a lot of grasshoppers and a few beetles. If you're walking on the trail, watch out for bikers--they won't watch out for you and seem to believe the trail is meant for them alone. While many of the bikers were very nice, there were some that were just rude, forcing us off the trail while riding in a group. Having just come from Colorado Springs and the beautiful hiking available there, this didn't compare. However, it's a nice walk and gives you a chance to get out in nature and enjoy the weather.
Lots of scenery, wildlife (birds, deer, waterfowl) and quietness during the week. You can walk or bike. Benches all along and parking in many different spots. It's the great outdoors.
Live close to the trail and frequently able to bike or run. Easily accessible at multiple points. The trail east of 35th Avenue is not as pretty as west of 59th Avenue/Dog Run Park. No major hills. Agree with another review - if you are biking would suggest having sealant and barriers in your tires. It can become somewhat crowded on Saturdays and Sundays beginning in later morning and early afternoon - definitely suggest starting early if you want to avoid crowds. By and large, most people are pleasant and aware of sharing trail between walkers, runners, and bikers. Able to replenish water at Eastman Park in Windsor, trailhead at Severance, and Island Grove Park. Can go from Island Grove Park to just west of Windsor currently.
We live by the Poudre River trail. We walk every Sunday morning. We have a great time on our walks and often stop along the trail to look at the birds, and other river animals that inhabit the shores and surrounding fields. We have seen deer on occasion and there are Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Hawks, Falcons, and even an Osprey. The people that walk, run and bike the trail are courteous to all that enjoy the trails.
I like the convince of the location of the Poudre Trail. I like the fact that I can walk a great distance and stop along the way and have a snack or lunch alon the trail.
Beautiful place to go for a walk or a bike ride anywhere along the trail. Each sections provides a new view and experience.
Very nice leisure trail great for beginners , best to start on 71 ave trail head and go west. Take repair kit there are a lot of goat heads
I wouldn't travel to Greeley just to see this trail, but if you are visiting in Greeley, starting at the 71st Street parking lot (by the red barn and walking/riding your bike west, you'll see a few miles of the best northeastern Colorado has to offer. The trail winds through pastures, by the river, under trees and offers a vista of mountains and bluffs. I have seen cranes, eagles, coyotes, muskrats, fish jump, turtles, blue jays, blue herons, squirrels, red winged blackbirds and numerous other birds.
I walk the Poudre Trail almost daily and always find something new to look at - wildflowers, birds, wildlife along the river. Having that time in nature refreshes my soul and prepares me for the rest of my busy day.
Love the bike trail that goes along the Poudre River extending from the east end to the west end of Fort Collins.
