This museum, located in a beautiful old school building, holds a great collection of local historical objects and displays about mining and local history. The re-created school room was my favorite. However, it is in serious need of updating in terms of re-thinking exhibit topics and providing informative labels so visitors know what they are experiencing. The price of admission is only $2.50 for adults and about a dollar for kids, so in that sense I believe it is worth it to stop by. One other disappointing thing was that the woman taking admission at the front desk was nice enough, but did not provide any information about the museum until I asked a few questions specifically. Anyone working at the front desk of a museum like this should assume that visitors are not local or have never visited before and therefore give some helpful information.
If your in the area to ride the Georgetown RR, stop by this museum. It is bit off the beaten track on back side of Silver Plume in the old brick school house. It is a great example of a locally supported museum trying to depict the old days. There is a very small admission fee (maybe $3) but well worth it. Some neat artifacts like old manual dentist chair, fire pumper, old band uniforms and a great collection of old photographs. One school room has been returned to the way it was, even an old photograph of that same school room to see comparison.
Une belle bâtisse abritant toute une collection d'artefacts sur la vie à Silver Plume. Quelques belles pièces et la reconstitution d'une salle de classe. Pas vraiment pour les enfants. Toutes les indications sont en anglais.
