This was our 4th winery of the day on Saturday. It was a pretty spot with good wines. Our server was nice and as it turned out, had been to our winery's other location the weekend before so we chatted about that. I ended up buying the blanc de blanc and can't wait to enjoy it. Thanks!
This was our 4th winery stop on 10/10/14 personal wine tour of Niagara. This was our first time to taste an ice wine. They make ice wine by letting the grapes freeze on the vine before harvest. This concentrates the sugars and makes the wine made from them very sweet (like a late harvest or a port). They had two excellent ice wines and we almost bought both but the ice wines are pricey so we decided on one. We bought Block Three ice wine. But with the price we paid, we'll be saving it for a special occasion!! The lady who helped us was very nice! We also bought a bottle of bacon ketchup there but unfortunately it got broken in my suitcase (thankfully the glass and ketchup stayed in the plastic bag and didn't get on anything else in my suitcase!
We do a lot of the event tastings that take place through out the year on the wine trail. This is my absolute favorite winery And i always make sure we stop. Staff is very helpful as well as knowledgable. Anne, one of the owners is an absolute sweetheart!! A good selection of non wine items are also available for purchase. Great rubs for meats and jams and spreads! A must on the wine trail stop. My favorite is the ruby and buy it by the case!
We went to 5 "wineries" on the Niagara Wine Trail as part of our Travel Zoo promotional package with our stay at the Sheraton At The Falls June 28, 29.I've written lots of reviews, not many of which are negative. I always justify my ratings.Schulze was our 4th stop.It was a new, clean, inviting facility with a proper bar and tasting area with friendly servers who lacked knowledge. They rinsed your glass with WATER, before pouring you a new/different sample = a big no-no for wine tasting. They offered whole wheat flavoured crackers to cleanse your palate, even though they should have offered bland, plain "Carr's Table Water Crackers" instead. The 'wines' weren't more than fermented juice, they didn't smell like wine. Nearly all of the different wines we tried tasted the same: like vinegar.YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!I learned that a lot of the wineries on this Trail were new, with young vines.I would describe these wineries as small 'Mom and Pop' operations; just big enough to engage in public tastings and bottling, but no where big enough to make a product I would like to have served to me, even at a 3.5 Star restaurant. We had to drive ourselves around this tour.It was not worth the hassle and fees to book a "limo" to drive our butts around to these "wineries" when we were only saving about $50 in wine tasting fees. On the contrary, it seemed a bit risky to get looped while driving yourself to and from these tastings.Give these places a few years to refine their grapes and practices.Do yourself a favour and drive the extra 30 minutes into Canada and go to established, experienced wineries in Niagara On The Lake where you can find plentiful, affordable, transportation for your tour, and better yet, where you can taste real wine, not vinegar.
I really like this place's wines, but the winery itself is a little small. They have a large tasting bar that dominates the room and doesn't leave a lot of room to mingle. That being said, they also had live music (1 singer with his guitar) on Saturday afternoon and it made it a little more noisy than normal. The tastings here were $2 (can't remember for how many, maybe 3). This one has my favorite wine (very very sweet, almost bubbly) with the Crackling Niagara - very sweet, wine, grape-y wine.Again, in the cluster of wineries up north by the lake. I'd certainly recommend it, but since we had such a large group (a school bus, approx 25 people), I'd like to try to coordinate a quieter time, if possible. In small groups, I don't think you'd have that issue.
My fiancee and I visited this winery along with two others while in Niagara Falls, New York. We enjoyed the wine tasting, however, we were there at the time a bus was there. We were stuck in the corner of the wine bar and were unfortunately ignored. If we are ever in the area again, we would visit again to give it another try. Hopefully, we will avoid a large group next time.
The staff was so friendly. Great place to visit. They allow you to taste test some of the products. I'm not a wine drinker but I did try a lighter tasting wine and just had to buy it. I was getting gifts for friends of mine. By the way, they loved the wine I bought them. Good prices too.
Great winery on the trip up to niagara. The guy doing the tastings was really friendly and informative. And the wine and sparkling were both great. Would recommend dropping in if you are passing by.
Schulze has the BEST wine, friendly staff, wonderful ambience and excellent value for great wines. Also like all of the gift for sale.
