I attended for IBHOF Induction weekend as a friend of one of the inductees. What an amazing experience, seeing so many childhood heroes up close, all the visiting boxers were very cool, and most were more than happy to have a chat and sign anything you asked. The museum is mind blowing for a boxing fan like myself. Hoping to one day bring my family over for the induction weekend.
A must see for any boxing fan. It was a little less then $10 per person to get in, and had it all. The best part was the gift shop with the boxing ring from Madison Square Garden.
Glad I had complimentary tickets, otherwise I don't know that it was worth the price of admission. Liked what little memorabilia they had. Don't skip going to the gift shop, there is the original boxing ring from Madison square garden there
What a great museum. I really liked the pictures and descriptions of what they were known for. I also liked the nicknames they would go by. The historical heavy weights were 190 pounds back in the day. Boy times have changed. The knuckle casts were interesting to see how small some of them were. Then you go to the gift store next door and see the ring that was in the Madison Square Garden. Another great thing here are the wonderful autographs you can purchase. They even have autographs on clothes, big gloves, punching bags, and corner posts. Very unique and best selection we've seen at a hall of fame. Amazing t shirts to purchase at a reasonable price. Items sold helpthe hall of fame. We were pleasantly surprised atthis hall of fame.
Next weekend is the induction weekend so there was a good buzz around the new class including Oscar de la Hoya and Félix Trinidad. This is about the size of the wrestling hall of fame in Iowa. Not big but well done with good exhibits.I do not know much about boxing other than the main names. I learned a lot.
Stopped by Memorial Day weekend only to find out the museum was closed because management decided to do some painting. I understand the need for maintenance, but why would you close down on weekend when you might actually have a lot of visitors? Makes no sense. Management should have scheduled the painting on a weekday or a regular weekend. I'm sure the memorabilia in the museum would be cool to see, but unfortunately it looks like this place is run by morons.
Okay, saw the sign as we were driving to Verona. We didn't know it was there! Checked in at Verona and next day we decided to backtrack one exit to see it. NOT DISAPPOINTED! If you love boxing or even if you are just a casual fan....this is so worth it. We had a great time and really learned a lot. Just seeing the ring from Madison Square Garden is great. Employees are very nice and accommodating. Spent some time and money in the gift shop for items you cannot get anywhere else. This stop on I-90 is worth it.
A must stop for any fan of the "Sweet Science". The museum is small but has a nice selection of memorabilia. There are plaques of all the boxers inducted into the hall. I had to make sure to find my favorite boxer of all time, Alexis Argüello! There are large display cases of trunks and robes from some big name boxers. There are Ali and Frazier full size posters to take pictures next to. There are plaster casts of the boxers hands so you can compare them to your own, mine didn't compare favorably! The boxers are divided into the different eras so it is quite easy to find the fighters you are looking for. The ring from Madison Square Garden that hosted many, many famous fights and fighters is there as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We got there a little more than a hour before the hall was supposed to close for the day. The gentleman who sold us our admission tickets asked if we would like a short guided tour. Of course we said yes and he gave us a 10 minute tour and then turned us loose to explore the hall for ourselves. He was also very helpful when I had a couple of questions, the staff was quite friendly and made us feel like valued guests. It was a very fun visit!
The museum is small but very well appointed. It also offers a very comprehensive history of organized, modern boxing. I especially enjoyed the clips of memorable great fights.
We had a very pleasant day trip (from Syracuse) to the IBHOF and Ft. Stanwix in Rome. While my husband knows boxing fairly well, my 19-year-old grandson and I have only a basic acquaintance with the sport. There was something here for all of us. Some nice displays about the well-known champions over the years, and lots of info about notable boxers going back to the 1800's. TVs with video clips of major knock-outs added to the experience. If you liked "Cinderella Man" or "Raging Bull," you'll enjoy this museum. There are bronze casts of various boxers' fists which gives a good sense of the power of the big guys. Some interesting info on the bare-knuckles boxers of the earlier era. I'd hoped for some more interactive types of displays, but all in all, we learned, got an appreciation of the sport, and would recommend to anyone passing through. It took us an hour and a half; while there's more information here (hundreds of plaques) it became tiring trying to read them, so after an hour and a half we'd had enough. Nice, helpful staff got us started.
For the boxing enthusiast ,this is the place. A small town in upper New York State, Conestoga. Entering the hall of fame main building was a rush of boxing history with world Champion belts , ring robes , shorts , gloves worn by all of the greatest inductees from the past. Hundreds of exhibits and knowledgeable staff. Then head over to the metal barn like structure ,which holds among many things the actual Madison square gardens ring. Which was donated after thousands of famous fights. In the same building is a large gift shop with signed gloves (authenticated) from hundreds of fighters some still active some retired some passed away. If your there the first week of June the annual induction of new hall of famers is on and the little town puts on a great four day event and so many past inductees are wandering around with new inductees , as a fan it is a must.
very nice inside lots of things to see. very nice grounds and right off the thruway and a mcdonalds right across the street and hotel there to.
Good Hall of Fame, don't let the size of it from the outside fool you. My teen son was like "really dad?" when he saw it and realized we drove way out there for such a small place, but once inside was impressed with how much stuff they had in a small place. You can tell this HOF is still in it's infancy and trying to grow. Great gal working inside the museum, very informative and helpful but at the same time giving you privacy to tour at your pace. Liked the many entrants in this hall and the information on the plaques, though they seemed a little on the inexpensive end compared to other plaques at other HOFs. Like i said, its still in its infancy for growth. Some great history here if you are a fan of boxing. I'm a Sugar Ray Leonard fan and did not leave disappointed.Building out back has a ring in it that came from Madison Square Garden, kinda cool. Other than that it's a gift shop. Some cool stuff but one of the male personnel there kept following us around telling us about this and that with the autographed stuff for sale and that kinda turned me off from buying some of the autographed paraphernalia. Ended up getting a shirt and lower priced merch instead. Gal working that end of the shop was very pleasant and nice to talk with. Overall, decent Hall of Fame. Can definitely see it growing, hope it does and we'll go back. Throw in some interactive stuff and some games/entertainment type things for kids and we'll definitely go back. Would love to see great things happen to with this Hall!
liked everything the displays restrooms clean well kept property
in june Canastota has a parade and lots of boxers come and people from all over the world it is really nice
