1000 islands river rat cheese

It was busy when we went but I have heard it is always busy. There was plenty of staff on site to answer all your questions. There were lots of different products and you get to taste at least 4-5 cheeses. Per the staff, samples are always avail. You can pick up meats, cheeses, crackers and candy here then stop get some wine and you are all set for a picnic near the waters edge right up the street.

We always make it a point to stop in for some cheese, fish, candy and other goodies when we are up North. From Mary, Heidi, Barbara and the others they all are so helpful, friendly and courteous and they " know they're cheese". Used to always go there when Dick Brown owned the establishment and now with Mary at the helm they have expanded and updated their appearance all in the positive. Keep up the good work and the customer relations. A can't miss operation. Kudos to all at the store. They're products are now featured in the Mid Hudson Valley at Meadowbrook Farms in Wappingers Falls, NY.

If you like cheese, you will LOVE this place. Try the mean and nasty or the roasted onion. Unbelievably good. I only get there once a year, but load up when I do. Also, the tomato oil....MWAHHHH!!! Great place. Friendly people.

An absolutely wonderful selection of cheese! This cheese has some of the best flavor of any cheese brand! The deep fried cheese curds were amazing...for the fan of mozarella sticks, this is one better!!!

Love visiting Mom and Dad in Clayton, and LOVE stopping to pick up some River Rat Cheese Curd! You absolutely must stop by this shop on the main drag and enjoy the cheese curds - so fresh they actually squeak. We had to go back a second time to stock up before heading off to Saratoga. Don't change a thing folks, we love your cheese!!!!

When in Clayton , drop in and take a peek. Whether your a cheese fan or not there is something for every taste bud .... Has nice selection of local products from cheese, jams, BBQ sauces,etc..... It costs nothing to browse but I am pretty sure you'll find something to you liking,

If you are going to the 1000 islands, you have to make a stop in Clayton for this shop! I am not the biggest cheese fan but I enjoy stopping in and trying the different cheeses, and getting some of the different snacks. There is something in this store for everybody! I am a big fan of their salsa trail mix, every time I am in the islands I make sure to at least take home four bags of it! Honestly its the best!

This is a MUST for us everytime we visit Clayton and the 1,000 Islands. Cute litte shop right off the main drag of Clayton....friendly staff....free samples....you can't go wrong. We visited on July 3rd and were killing time before the fireworks...we ended up buying some cheese and asked if they could slice it up for a fireworks snack, and they were happy to do it for us. HIGHLY recommend the toasted onion and cheddar and the XXX cheddar......when my current supply runs out, I'm going to have to wait patiently until my local Mayer Bros cider mill opens this fall to get my river rat fix!

This location has a huge selection of cheeses and cheese curds. Some are plain, and others seasoned. We tried the vegetable seasoned cheese curds. Delicious! We also bought some salami sticks to go with them. Looking around the store is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. And they have the greatest name---River Rat Cheese!

We bought a package of River Rat Cheese Curd and were amazed at how delicious it was. Be sure to stop in their store and treat yourself to something really good!

Not only is the River Rat cheese a full flavored, rich cheddar, River Rat carries Martin's Pretzels, the best pretzels in the world. WHAT could be better? This is an essential stop when visiting TINY.

There's a reason the basic River Rat cheese curd is sold in stores all over Upstate- it's because it's delicious! The selection in the actual store, though, is amazing. You like hot? They've got it. You like funky? Got it. You like the classics? Got that, too. There's also a pretty good selection of candy, some of which you don't find in the bigger stores. It was pretty nostalgic I admit. They usually have samples you can try if you're not sure what you want, which is helpful when you want to try something new but don't want to buy something you're not sure about. It's more expensive than cheeses at Wal-Mart, but that's because it's made fresh, tastes better, and is of a much higher quality. Definitely worth the few extra bucks.

The cheddar cheese is excellent - we tried the 3 and 8 year aged. Very friendly folks, as we found with every place we visited in Clayton. Our dogs also loved the homemade dog biscuits.

The cheese curd is very good, a little high priced compared to other places. The Cheddar cheese is also very good. We also purchased coffee and ground it fresh right in the shop which was nice.
