If you've never been to the Earlville Opera House, you should definitely put it on your list. We saw the Tannahill Weavers last Friday (traditional Scottish musicians) who, as always, were excellent. The Opera House offers a wide variety of performers throughout the year. It is a fantastic setting.... a small opera house well into its second century. The interior is being refurbished bringing the beauty of times gone by to the audience. Besides a comfortable setting for performances there are art shows on the ground level as well as a gift shop and refreshments.
An opera house, originally built in the 1890's and pretty much unchanged since then while the surrounding area has been made into a art and cultural center - yes, in the middle of Earlville. The addition of a lift to make it handicapped accessible was the needed touch. The theatre is nearly acoustically perfect and a wonderful venue for all sorts of entertainers. I've taken a chance on a number of singers/bands that I wasn't familiar with and have yet to be disappointed in any of them. There's an art gallery and a shop for local artist's to sell their wares. Wonderful stuff. It's a cool little theatre/cultural center and well worth the trip to Earlville.
my cousin had a wedding there last september and it was georgeous. the staff was wonderful.....cant wait to go back to see a show.....
With a personal goal of "shopping locally" this past Christmas, I went to the EOH's holiday show last December. The selections were finely crafted and of a great variety...so much so that I returned with friends the following week to buy more pottery, hand-knitted items, decorations, etc.
The first time I saw a concert at this historic 2nd story restored theater, I was blown away. The acoustics are incredible and the old-time feel is complimented by the current art exhibits and other updated amenities. Programming is excellent, with national acts and family events. I feel very lucky to have access to high-quality music and art in my own backyard.
I love history and old buildings, so when I heard about the Earlville Opera House, I headed out with a friend. It has been restored to its former glory. Its amazing and its free! At any given time, they have art exhibits on display, also free!
