This is a giant duck, like it says in it's title. Formerly the site of a duck farm (no more ducks, except for one "mascot", Roxy, I think) the people of this small town have taken the original property and turned it into a historic site, of sorts. The Big Duck houses a small gift shop with duck stuff you can buy. There is also a recently restored small barn with other historical stuff there. When we went for a recent visit to Long Island to see relatives we were able to attend the "Lighting of the Wreath" for the Big Duck. Lots of small town type fun, the local school choir was there and sang a few songs, hot chocolate was served, we bought a funny lit up Santa hat. Cold evening but a lot of fun just hanging out with the 200 or so locals who showed up. The local news team (Channel 12) was on site and filmed the whole thing, even the arrival of Santa on the local fire departments hook and ladder truck. All in all a really good time whether it's at Christmas or not. Enjoy!

Giant white big duck. There is a gift shop in the chest of the duck. In the winter the duck is decorated in Christmas lights and there is a lighting ceremony.

Went back for a visit after all these years since we were first married. Nice woman working inside tells you anything you'd want to . Cute items inside for sale commemorating your trip to this historical landmark. Not a lot of time needed for this attraction but definitely a cool part of history.

Love the Big Duck. Happy it is back in its place :). I am a local and I love bringing family/friends to see the Duck.Inside is a small store.

it's a landmark that has been moved and really is just a small store inside for trinkets that are overpriced.

I make at least a yearly pilgrimage to The Big Duck; but he’s especially pretty when lit up at Christmas time. What is there not to like, it’s a big a duck?! There’s a whole history behind The Duck, which I won’t go into, but suffice it to say that he’s old and he’s a Long Island legend. He’s also an architectural wonder. You can walk into his tummy and inside is a gift shop where duck wonders can be purchased. I have come home with many a rubber ducky, postcards, tote bags, and such. It’s well worth the drive out to Flanders, for anyone young or old. Long live The Duck!

The Big Duck is a building in the shape of a duck located on Flanders Rd. (Rt 24) in Flanders, New York, on Long Island. It was built in 1931 by duck farmer as a shop to sell ducks and duck eggs. As a child my parents would take us there to buy ducks and we loved the place. It is a wonderful historic place not to be missed if you are in the area. It is now a museum manned by friendly staff to tell you the history of the building.

As a child quite some years ago, I used to laugh every time we passed the Big Duck. It was a Duck farm in those days. It was then, and still is a landmark that will elicit smiles if viewed with your children. No longer a child, it still delights me.

Long Island, known for numerous attractions, is home to the big duck. Spending its time in , Flanders, at the eastern end of Long Island. Built to enhance the poultry industry. Using it for one of the first take out stops in the area. Love it inside and out. Lots of duck related souvenirs for sale.

I've been visiting the Big Duck since I was very young. It's just one of those sites you must see and snap a few pictures of if you're anywhere within 10 miles. Stand nearby, wear a sweater, smile and make some holiday cards of yourself!

If your not from the area , yes It's worth a stop.Reason 1. Photo Op. Because although there isn't much to it, there is only one. Reason 2. Great rest stop to let the kiddies run around, whilst sitting at a picnic table or on the grass and enjoying the view of the bay. Reason 3. It's Free! Unless you buy something from the gift shop.Enjoy it!

I pass this place at least once a week. Ok, I get it. Some farmer made the duck to sell his products and it became iconic. Not much to look at and hardly a contributor to the cultural richness of the area.

The duck represents what the area once was......so many duck farms....does anyone remember John Duck's Restaurant in Southampton? Those ducks were from this duck farm.....Long Island Duckling Farms were everywhere.
