My family has been going to Dubois Farms since it first opened. They have a great variety of produce including apples, eggplant, tomatoes, pears, etc. Every year they do something to improve the experience of being in the outdoors on a farm. Corn maze, tractor pulled wagon rides, a small village and farm animals are there to entertain the children and adults. Both Dave and Jolee DuBois put their heart and soul into this endeavor. I highly recommend you pay this farm a visit. If you have little ones bring them along... Hey, remember to bring your camera... No fee for parking but of course if you pick anything you are charged.. It is a farm atmosphere so don't expect paved paths throughout.
My family and I visited this location even though I have read many reviews from locals that it's overpriced. They charge for bags, a pole tool to reach apples at the tree tops, corn maze and wagons. Cider was cold, donuts weren't the best. Gravel paths made it very difficult to maneuver a stroller. Upon leaving, the parking attendant was very ride rushing is to close our car door so a car could park next to us. Explained we were buckling the kids in the car and he never apologized. As a local, I won't go back.
A great time at the farm. I hear about Dubois Farms from a friend of mine. After researching potential apple picking farms throughout New York and Northern New Jersey, I finally decided to give this one a shot. The reviews for majority of these places have been mixed, with a lot of complaints of the farms selling flat fees for bags (sometimes $20+) per bag. One thing I did like about this place was that you pay per pound, with no minimums. It took us about an hour and a half to get there from the Bronx. The ride up the Taconic was nice, especially with the fall colors. We entered the parking lot about 2:30PM on a nice Sunday. It was pretty busy but there were tons of spaces available. Attendants were there as well as throughout the Farm to answer any and al questions. Once parked, we rented a wagon ($5, you get a few back once you bring it back) and hopped on the tractor which took us on a few minute ride down to the main area. At the main area, you can buy bags (50 cents each) and also rent an apple picking pole ($20 rental, and you get the entire $20 back once returned). You are also given a map. There were also a bunch (about 15) port a potties there with a handwashing station. Usually port-a-potties are horrible but these were honestly the cleanest, most well kept stations I have ever encountered. There was a bunch of apples to pick, as well as pumpkins, tomatoes, eggplants, grapes, and pears. The apples were $1.69 per pound and the vegetables were $2.69 per pound. I do not know about the pumpkins. $2.69 is a bit steep for say peppers, but not too bad for say fresh ripe tomatoes, so I think the prices should be a bit more separated, though I do understand that they probably set it up this way for convenience. Walking around was nice, there was horse riding, a few animals including donkey, goats and llamas, a little play area with small houses for the kids and finally a corn maze. The corn maze was not the most extensive, but it was a fun 5 minute activity and my 3 year old had a good time. For $1 per person, I can't complain. Once you gathered all of you apples and veggies, you head back to the main area where you wait on line (sometimes long - there was about 60 people on line when we arrived at 2:30, but none when we were about to leave at 4:30) and cash out. In that little area, there are a few flowers to buy along with some drinks and a bakery which sells a few things along with apple cider donuts which were great. Hot and fresh. Off to the side, there was a station which was making pulled pork, hot dogs, chips, ice cones and selling a variety of drinks for those who wanted to have lunch there. Prices were pretty fair, chips and a hot dog for about $4. An overall great experience. Staff was plentiful and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Lastly, I think you can literally go there, eat apples and leave. There was no entrance or parking fee. You can take home apples by the pound, but there was no requirement, so eat up!! Its also good so that you can sample the variety of apples there before picking.
Took our 22 month granddaughter to the farm. She had a great time running around in the apple orchard and pumpkin patches. There is also a village of little buildings for kids to explore. Farm tractor and horse rides. Great day trip.
What an amazing orchard. I have never seen so many big, beautiful apples particularly in the last weekend of the NYS apple picking season. More importantly they are the best tasting apples as well. Huge variety and we couldn't decide which ones we liked best however the gold rush were out of this world. The grapes we picked were delicious as well. Cider donuts were hot and fresh and the cider is amazing. We picked enormous pumpkins to finish up our fall fun. Not over crowded, well organized parking and very helpful staff. This is our new family apple picking tradition. Much nicer than any of the places upstate or in Putnam/westchester county.
Just got back from a fantastic Mid Hudson weekend. Our first farm stop was Dubois Farms. The girl at the booth by the parking lot suggested we take a wagon and explained it was only a $5 deposit.........when we returned it an hour later we got $3 back. That's not a "deposit!" Also bring your own bags if you don't want to pay 50 cents for their bags. The orchard itself was nothing special.......crude map.....poorly signed. Prices for apples were average......pumpkins at 69 cents/lb was high......cider was nothing special.Second stop was Hurds Family Farm in Modena......100% better! Lots for kids.....well signed.......professional brochure and map.......very friendly and helpful staff......best cider we've tasted......organized. You can pick your own apples or fill up your bag with any variety right in the barn.
Went here with my wife for the first time and discovered a very nice place to pick your own fruit. We picked golden suprime apples and plums. We enjoyed it so much we came back five days later and picked more plums. This orchid is very clean, well taken care of and the prices are reasonable. If you enjoy picking your own fruit, Dubois Farms is the place to go. It is free to visit and you pay for what you pick...Enjoy
Just got back from apple picking at Dubois Farms. What a great place. The kids loved it. This is our 2nd season going and we are never disappointed. There is so much to do. Face painting, sand art, a tiny town for the kids to play in. Tractor rides, petting zoo. You can easily spend an afternoon there. There is no admission charge, however activities such as the face painting and sand art charge a small fee. They have a great assortment of mums and pumpkins also... Love Dubois Farms
We just love this farm. Every weekend they have a different festival going on lots of activities for the kids very family friendly. We love spending hours of fun there. We can never just go once we are there at least 4 or 5 times a season.
Our family loves this farm, there is a lot to do and really great atmosphere. The family that owns and runs this farm are very welcoming. You are made to feel like you are visiting friends for the day. We make a point to come every season as much as possible. Who needs grocery store produce, when you can get it here.Looking forward to this season picking in August. Great story behind this find.
We love going here! We visit amost every weekend in the fall, if not to get delicious produce, then just to walk around and enjoy the environment!
Only pick-your own that I found having concord grapes & tomatoes (in addition to apples & pears.) Small market & stand w/fresh cider & donuts. Acvtivities for kids too. Friendly staff.
As a "pick your own" fruit place, this one is very nice, and does have a lot of activities. The MAJOR problem is the crowds and the waiting times. Everything had a long wait, including checkout and on-site food purchases (burgers, dogs, etc). It is just not worth the time and aggravation to get high-quality but also high-priced fruit if you also toss in a lot of standing around. We will probably try somewhere else next year.
We've taken our kids to Dubois farms for the past two years and have always had a great time. They open to the public in August and stay open throughout the fall with different fruit to pick almost every week. What sets them apart from the other pick your own farms is all of the fun activities they offer. There is a tiny town for kids to play in which includes a school house, a jail, a store and other small buildings. There are also pony rides available for a small fee. My daughter loves the pony rides and I love that they have a few ponies that take turns giving rides so that one pony is not made to work continuously. They seem to be very well cared for. Other farm animals live at the farm as well. You can also enjoy a BBQ lunch at the farm and take home some baked goods from the store. We can't make a visit without taking home some of their delicious apple cider donuts.
