Great place to visit for a spiritual retreat or to say a prayer. there is an out door chapel. Pathways in the pine barrens. Religious store, coffee shop.
The area itself is serene and uplifting. It has inspiring stations of the cross, which encourages you to meditate. The huge Blessed Mother statue has rows of chairs so, on a good day, you can sit and find peace. If you are lucky, a priest named Father Hugh Gillespie (at mass or other kinds of service) delivers excellent homilies and celebrates mass from his heart. His heart is on fire - and so will yours be.
There was nothing to dislike about this sacred place. We visit at all times of the day and week and find peace when we are there.
I am not religious by any means, but grew up in eastport close to the Shrine of our Lady of the Island off eastport manor rd. Trip advisor asked me to rate a few different places, but easport is not exactly known for its restaurants and culture. I suggest taking a bike ride or drive up to the shrine whether you are religious or not it is a place I spent a lot of time in my youth. It is extremely quiet, one of the highest points on the south shore, it has a great view, and is great for a bike ride if you like hills. It has always been a very theraputic and solemn place for me in a number of ways. The people up there are very friendly and run a gift shop at the top. For people practicing, there is a long trail with the stations of the cross, a rosary walk, and indoor and outdoor masses held, but I do not know the times. It is worth a stop to see whats there, and please be respectful of the surroundings and other visitors.
Just beautiful and the most peaceful place on the island. Make sure you park your car and walk up to her" she just seems to follow you and brings peace
This is a great place to walk around, either to reflect upon the spiritual aspect of the shrine, or to appreciate nature. The view from the top of the hill is breathtaking, you can see the bay and all that is around.
