The trail map forgot to mention that this is 7 miles down a dirt road, so make sure you have a 4 wheel drive. After a good rain, this trail is certainly not "easy" - moderate at best is a good description. Its muddy & uneven surfaces could easily result in slippages. I would go again, but in a larger group. Its extremely remote - if something happens/emergency, you can forget about calling for help - you'll be lucky if there's anyone else on the trail!
We have visited Blue Ledges three times while staying at Timberlock on Indian Lake. Once hiking in over now closed private land, once while rafting the Hudson, and in 2007 hiking and picnicking in. It is a beautiful spot, often used by rafters for their lunch spot. There is plenty of room for rafters, picnickers, and hikers.Access may have improved since 2007 but it was not easy to find then. The trail in was good and was NOT the reason my wife slipped and broke wrist. It does require caution and can be wet and muddy in places. Seeing the Hudson as a wild river, with (if you are lucky) Bald Eagles flying overhead is worth the moderate hike in.The "very good" rating is mainly if you are in the neighborhood, enjoy the out of doors, and like to hike. Wuses, don't bother.Good swimming, but no changing rooms (as of 2007). Wear your suit in or swim in your shorts.ps the date of visit as July 2012 is what they allow. Actual last visit was July 2007.
