I saw a gorgeous winter pic on my Facebook of this place and it made me pine for its many delights. I figured Id relive the joy by posting a long overdue review in hopes it will tide me over till I can get back there this summer.I was there this past August on some pre labor-day celebration and caught one of the longest and most amazing fireworks displays ever. I think it went on for 30 minutes! Crazy. They had what seemed like a million school kids performing baton twirling, dance, music. There were bands on the stage. Honestly Ive never seen anything quite like it. Im a NYer originally and now live at the beach in LA so for me, being on this beautiful land amongst an endless bounty of food with all the animals and the kitschy games and fun park? Heaven.Specifics: Three dollars to get in? I thought someone was spoofing me the price was so low. The fun park was extra and totally worth it. All the pickings were great but I personally LIVE for good tomatoes and cucumbers and this place had the best. I bought a loaf of bread, some good feta and mozzarella and ate like a queen for a week. I think the fact that you forage yourself for what you deem as the best ones helps the deliciousness of the haul. I read people complaining here about the prices and I marvel at their insanity. Maybe they grow their own in which case actually paying for fruits and vegetables would be a great markup by comparison, but unless you do, this place is more than reasonably priced..When I was on line to pay for my haul I saw at least 2 groups of people try to sneak out extra produce for free, so take the other reviews with the knowledge of the type of the clientele who would do so. Be smart! Get there early. Check traffic. Weekends will always be busier. Hello? There's more than ample parking and a ton of stuff for the kids to do (I personally loved being chased out of the Haunted House with a chainsaw). A family could easily spend the whole day there so plan for it if you like. Its organised (clear maps) with a huge selection of fruits and veggies which vary throughout the season (sadly I missed the seasonal doughnut peaches last time). Insider tip: Like bloody marys? T0-DIE-FOR mix of there own making sold in the store. My mouth actually just watered remembering it.Till summer Barton Orchards! Thanks for the memories!

My family was there on October 25th 2014.This was my first visit apple picking and I really liked the place. They had no only apples and pumpkins but country music, soft rock and roll, petting animals, a playground and much more. I think the music was part of a festival I think every year and a lot of kids wore costumes and they were giving gifts to thr best costume.I really recommend this place if you have small kids. They bad thing is that they have portable toilets only. They do not accept outside food or drinks (but they didn't check our bags either)The price to participate of all activities was $12.50 ages 3 and up.

This orchard definitely has the most diverse pick your own and multitude of activities for kids, but I would NEVER go on a weekend again. There was a different line unnecessarily for every purchase, or entrance, apple bag, apple stick, etc, nevermimd the 3 hours it took us to get in , which should have been an hour drive. Pumpkins are triple priced compared to elsewhere. Next year I'll buy them all at Stew Leonard's.

Huge property and wide selection of crops (especially apple trees), but having a DJ blasting music just to keep the kids entertained is incredibly distracting to the entire natural experience. I wanted to be in the fresh air, take in the scenery, walk around the orchard, and enjoy the beautiful day, but instead, I felt like I was at Club Barton.Considering the amount of development that has happened recently on the property, a proper restroom facility would benefit the grounds.

My family has watched this farm morph from a fuzzy caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly. I'm very disapointed with the negative reviews. Barton Orchard is by far Dutchess County's most Premier Orchard. Actually, it's more like an Autumn Festival. I've been picking from their HUGE vegtable garden for over 15 years. The veggies are all $1.25 a pound. Do the math. You get A LOT of food! They have everything from stringbeans to eggplants, tomatos to butternut squash. So this is the deal... Monday-Thursday it's pretty quiet, like a typical farm. No admission fee, just park and pick. They have tons of trees from Empires to Granny Smiths. Apples ripen at different times so do your homework on which ones you want so not to be disapointed when you go too late and find bare trees. Pumpkin patch is super big, a little pricey, but for that one perfect pumpkin, it can't be beat. Weekends are a bit crowded, $3 admission, but that covers hayrides and live bands. The atmostphere oozes Autumn. It's a Huge Farm, bring a wagon if you can, but they do have some for use. For kids to young adults they offer a "Fall Fun Package" which is $13 it includes SO Much Fun from a BIG haunted house to a spooky corn maze. Look up the details, well worth it for once a year. Their Bakery shop and Farm Market (with the fudge shack) offer delights you simply won't find anywhere else. Grab lunch and sit at a picnic table, SO relaxing. Yes, they have a great playground for the kids, LOTS of farm animals to pet and feed, and GORGEOUS views of the mountains. This Farm is both Romantic and Playful. If you ARE an out-of-towner and want to experience the BEST of everything Autumn, THIS IS THE FARM. For around $100 a family of four can spend HOURS of Fall fun and leave with a bunch of goodies to last all season. PS.. If you are nice to people they will be nice to you! I go to this farm at least 4 times a season and everyone, including Pete The owner are wonderfully nice!! If you are looking for an "old fashion apple orchard" or just want to run in, pick and go, I would recommend Fishkill Farms, no frills, but you can drive into the orchard and set up your own picnic lunch. Happy Harvest!!

Extremely costly compared to other orchards in the area, plus hidden charges for anything else to do once inside. The workers there are arrogant and rude. Don't waste your money. Go to one of the other farms in the area.

It's almost as bad as Disney World - charges at every turn and crazy high prices for a pumpkin or your fruit. Good thing there are enough stupid NYC people coming in on a bus so this place can stay in business.

I came here in the fall a its a very nice place with a nice fall environment. I felt the pumpkins were overpriced especially when I bring them home and 2 weeks later they got moldy. Not very good quality for what we paid for these pumpkins. Probably would never come back again. Ill save ten bucks and just to wal-mart next time!

This was my family's 2nd visit t Barton Orchards for apple picking- there are other varieties of fruits & veggies that also await picking. An assortment of apples trees line the orchard. There are endless rows of them- clearly marked. They also have rows of eggplant, peppers(red, green, yellow) tomatoes, grapevines, blueberries etc. just to name a few. You can sign up for a tractor ride and of course their pumpkin patch is huge. They feature a decent variety of places to stop & get a bit to eat. There are farm animals on display, kids can feed some. Such a relaxing atmosphere. Their Live entertainment is always entertaining. It can accommodate quite a number of visitors & parking is free! Admission is very reasonable & a great time will be had by all. Kids of all ages will enjoy their visit. The drive up to Duchess county is enjoyable as the fall foliage is on full display- it is truly awe inspiring to see as you pass over the Croton Resevior en route. Really breath taking. Can't wait to return w/ a bigger group next fall.

this place is no place to go pick apples. I took a group of 16 and I wanted to pick fresh apples.I paid for my empty bag $ 15.00 and the lady told me where to go pick. I only found applesthat had fallen on the ground. hardly any on the trees.. I went back and told her that. she saidI did not go to the right place. never offered to get an employee to show me where to pick.the owner was very rude to one of my guest with me. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Lots to see and do with the kids. Free hayride, but bring your wallet! Petting zoo, and feed the animals. Cornfield maze, kiddie maze, pigs, alpacas, food!

The farm is huge. I went on a Friday and there was a lot to do. There is even more to do on the weekend - hay rides, corn maze, farm animals, panning for gold, live music and pick your own fruit and veggies. There is no admission charge during the week but there is one on the weekends. There is a bakery with really good cookies, scones and doughnuts. They also have fudge, breads and other things. There is a market that sells local honey, garlic, jellies, produce and many other things. It is nice place to spend a few hours. Plus walking through the apple trees is great exercise. Also, the apples are so good. The only negative is having to use port-a-potties. But having a place to "go" was nice after the hour ride to get there.
