What a treat to be able to walk where American's fought to protect our country hundreds of years ago...As you look out over the Fort and imagine those days, you can follow along in the brochures and listen to the rangers tell the history of the Fort, or you can walk around on your own. You might even catch a glimpse of some goats on the hills. There are beautiful views of the skyline of Manhatten and the Verazanno Bridge - nice during the day but spectacular on a clear night. If you are anywhere near Staten Island, I highly recommend a visit here - you will not be disappointed.

I was lucky enough to have some time to walk around Fort Wadsworth and it was well worth the exploration. The view alone looking back across to Manhattan was worth the stop but reading about the history that happened there made it even better. To top it all off, they were filming an episode of Madam Secretary in the old buildings on the water which was very cool. Whenever I have a chance, I try to make the best of an opportunity to visit any of our national treasures that are part of our National Park system and hope I never take them for granted.

It is amazing to have this piece of history on Staten Island. The park rangers were very informative about the revolutionary war involvement of this fort and how important it was. The night time tour with laterns is fun for the kids

Easy to find and a great view of bridge and Manhattan Island. The historic army fort structures are in very good condition.

It's worthwhile to visit this place at least once. It has important place in history. I wasn't able to get inside the fort.

Great views on my recent road trip. Worth the stop and the photo opportunity. Wish you could enjoy it more than from a distance.

Awesome view of the Verrazano bridge, New York Harbor and the Manhattan skyline. US parks department, so open to the general public, but also a Coast Guard station. Some historic military buildings, although only accessible from outside.

Having been a resident for 30 years and a person who prefers exploring Staten Island instead of "shopping" in NJ I do believe that this is the most spectacular view on the Island. And probably the most peaceful. I took some pictures with my little disposable camera and they came out so beautifully that I have them framed in my office. Whenever I look at them I have the same feeling of peace that I got when I was sitting on the ledge, watching the goats eat the weeds and looking up at the bridge. It is also a wonderful place for nature walks. If you know the path at the end of the boardwalk you can walk the boardwalk, follow the pathe into Fort Wadsworth and walk to the overlook, a most pleasant and free way to spend an afternoon.,

Situated under the vn bridge and overlooking all of the lower bay this is an ideal spot for walking and pictures. Originally built to keep the British ships out of NYC it faces ft Hamilton on the Brooklyn side our ancestors could catch the enemy in a cross fire. The original fort still stands on the water and tours are given. The rest of the property houses coast guard,us park police, army reserve and others. A beautiful place to visit.

The first time you visit Fort Wadsworth, you should take a guided tour. You will learn all the historical facts about the Fort and it is a very informative tour. Afterwards, you are allowed to roam the gounds on your own to check out all the views and nature around you. It is right near the water, across from Manhattan and next to the Verrazano Bridge. Great place for a photographer or nature lover! I never get tired of it. Definitely worth the trip. Not too touristy, so it doesn't get crowded. Pack a lunch and have a picnic. Lots of beautiful places to sit, relax and enjoy your surroundings.

fort wadsworth is a historic location in a bustling metropolis. Situated under the VZ bridge, the fort is walkable and has a visitors center and regular tours of the fort. It is also home to a group of lawn mowing goats and the coast guard.

I took the S51 bus from the ferry terminal at St George to the Fort and found the visitors center closed, little signage/information for self-guided visits and a rather dilapidated site. The Fort itself is located at the base of the cliff on which the visitors center/car park sit and I couldn't see a way to get down or if it was even accessible/open. I came across a few signs near old-looking structures but they didn't say very much. The views to Manhattan are nice, but the view out to the Atlantic is largely obscured by trees.

Visitor center still under reconstruction, but staff very friendly and willing to share what the can with the resources available. If you are into camping, look up the campgrounds on site, use it as a base for a great way to do NYC on the cheap. Spent 5 days there (in and around NYC) with a family of five and kept the trip under $600 including food and touristy stuff.

Fort Wadsworth is worth a trip. Views of New York harbor are outstanding. It's great walking (and good exercise). And don't forget the history. It's worth a trip.
