Lots of new and different varieties of spirits. More on the way. Free tasting. Might have to pay for some. Worth the trip. Could always pick up some apples.
We were attached by the different flavors of brandy. We did nto ahve the time to taste at the store but belive we made the right purchase. It is the building behind the Fruit/Vegatable Stand.
Walk past the apple trees and into the distillery where those apples are transformed into delicious spirits. The applejack was a brilliant surprise of complicated notes, and we will be keeping it in our rotation at home. Would have liked a tour, which is about the only thing keeping us from giving this place 5 stars, but it sounds like a tour is in the works. And the distillery dog, Sadie, was a most friendly host. (Be sure to check out the Golden Harvest Farms next door for the best cider donuts around.)
Wonderful Hudson Valley distillery. Had a great time talking to the distiller and learning all about his craft spirits. His is so passionate about what he is doing and it comes through in his products. My favorite is the pear brandy, oh la la.
We had seen this business on the cooking show Farmhouse Rules. Since we were nearby we thought we would stop. We met the owner who turned us over to a friendly and helpful young man for the tour and tastings. While small in scale, you could see exactly how they distilled and bottled their spirits. Barrels of all sorts of different versions of vodka, brandy and whiskey were aging on racks. We were offered a variety of products to taste and bought several. A worthwhile stop.
I had already purchased some of their spirits so when I was in the area I took a detour to Valatie. The distillery is attached to the family apple farm, the owner and the staff are very friendly , they show you the distilling process and you can wander around the distillery and the barrel store. Tastings are available too and when you leave you can also go in the farm store and get great apple cider doughnuts or apple pies.
Little did I dream when, once, I picked apples here, one day it would host a distillery! Want to taste what Revolutionar War solders dranK? Try Harvest Spirits Old Scrumpy - a robust ghost of the past made from farm grown apples. Core Vodka is another delight, sample both at the tasting bar. In the works, a fine Single Malt Whskey - tried a wee sample...notable heat and smokey taste...and it hasn't even matured yet! Learn the art of distilling, see barrels aging quietly, stacked to the ceiling. Grab a few bottles for the road...we did. Don't forget the apple orchard stand - fab home made cider donuts, honeys and best apples in New York.
Average busy orchard, but wonderful distillery. Fresh local eggs and veggies...
If you like hard liquor, this is a nice little tasting. There is a farm store right on the property as well that makes and excellent strawberry-rhubarb pie. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit.
