Within a few minutes from my home I can be on this newly designated trail walking the dogs without a care in the world. Well kept, clean, and safe on this small community trail is why every town, city, or village should have an area like this.
There is a hidden gem in Albany County if you enjoy bicycling a little off road. The rail trail starts in Voorheesville and runs through to Albany (but you have to leave the trail for 100 feet in New Scotland if you want to bike the entire trail). Very scenic and enjoyable.
We have both walked and bicycled on the Albany County Rail Trail. It is great to have an accessible traffic free trail to do both. As a walking trail, the Rail Trail scenery is less interesting than many of the local parks and nature trails but enough to hold ones interest. As a bicycle trail the varying surfaces of hard pack dirt, gravel, and sand is at times challenging but relatively negotiable with a mountain or city style bicycle. However, the straight, level, traffic-free trail is suitable for even beginners and kids. Folks should be aware that there are no services on the trail and parking is limited at many entry points. Trail users should also be very conscious that they are traveling through neighborhoods and should be respectful of those who live along the trail. We can't wait until the Voorheesville to Altamont section is opened.
I walked here last week a very cool place. It is on a old train track that we're ripped off and turned in to a walking path. There is some down sides though it is not paved so there are weed growing I on the trail and no biking. Overall a great place.
