hiking trails, animals that you can pet and play with, knowledgable and friendly staff. Facilities are beautiful and very well maintained. Always a lot of activities going on. Don't miss prairie dogs!
We spent quite a bit of time here this past summer. There is a large grass area and some very nice play sets for the kids (for different ages). We love the area with all the animals, though depending on what time you visit they may not be out. It is much better maintained than some of the other parks/playgrounds in the area. Very well maintained with lots of activities.
This was our third visit in the past 2 years. This time we were at the center for a birthday party for my 3 year old grandson. The guests included at least 15 3 year olds and some siblings (older and younger). Everyone had a great time.
we take our two young daughters from time to time. Once our older one had a birthday party there. Young staff were very polite and pleasant, I should add they are also knowledgeable.
I was driving near this center when I saw a man standing in the middle of a busy road. I stopped to ask what was up, he was protecting a good sized turtle not knowing what to do with it. I put it in a shopping bag after wetting down a cloth with my bottled water an brought it to the Greenburg Nature Center they kindly took it in even though I was told it was against their policy. I then walked briefly around. A pleasant place.Bring your turtles thereJeremy T
This place is gr eat to spend a day. my 8 year old had a blast here. He didn't want to leave! We got to pet ferrets, chinchilla s, snakes, turtles, tortoises, reptiles, and doves! We thought it was expensive at 7$ pp, but after we left we were convinced it was worth it. We spent at least three hrs inside and two outside hiking the easy trails with a story along the way, and the farm animals outside. My son loved the playground for ages five to twelve. The whole place is gorgeous lush landscaping. We had a picnic there at the tables as well . If you hike some of the trails, you can see the Hudson valley mountains! All in all, it was a great memorable day.
Hands on experience of huge variety of petting animals and snakes and turtles. Fabulous opportunity to get up front and personal with animals cradled lovingly in the hands of enthusiastic young naturalists. Perfect way for children to get comfortable with the animal world, but also interesting to their parents and grandparents.
We have taken our children to this center many times and are now members. The staff of mostly volunteers are wonderful, caring and very knowledgeable about the animals and habitat. The new playground is beautifully designed and fun for kids of all ages. They offer programs, talks and events constantly so check out their website before visiting. Better yet, become a member - it is worth it.
Nice way to spend a day with the family. You can peruse the exhibits, speak with the nature experts, walk on the trails. We used to take the children here often when they were younger.
love the new outdoor play area. open even when the center is closed (Fridays). Different levels of play for all ages. would go again.
We now return with our grandchildren who love this place as much as their parents did when they were children. The staff is assisted by many volunteers (middle & high school students), most of whom are knowledgable and seem to like kids. They take the animals out and allow the kids to touch & handle them. If you plan to go more than one time, think about getting a family membership. It's relatively inexpensive & helps to support this great organization. Only problem is that they have parties downstairs (maybe still bring animals to an at-home party, and often many of the animals are not available).
I wish there was more to this place. It is a great concept but I always leave disappointed. It's really all about funding. They do the best they can with limited funds and volunteers. Unless they are having a special event it is not the place to take children older than 8 or so. There is simply not that much for them to do or see. It is the only thing out there in the pretty much wasteland of this area in Westchester. What it really needs is more funding because they have a lot of heart and they do the very best with very little. For very young children it is a way to spend an hour or so when there is nothing else to do. I wish I could say more exciting things about a place with so much heart but this is the real scoop.
The presentation was hands on and really great . The kids loved it. We had so much time and learned so much.
It's a beautiful and peaceful nature center with birds, fish, reptiles and small animals. My kids attended their summer camp and had a great time feeding and watching the animals. They did crafts and made s'mores. They really enjoyed it. The staff were wonderful with them. Lovely trails to walk around and enjoy the scenery. They are also getting a new playground soon.
This is a lovely sanctuary -- so many interesting local species (reptiles, fish, birds, small mammals). If you go on the right day the staff will gladly take an animal out for you to take a closer look. Interesting bee and insect exhibits too. Great for young children -- walking trails in the back are cool, too.
