For music lovers in metropolitan New York City, the Caramoor Center for the Arts in beautiful Katonah offers a perfect setting for outstanding performances of symphony, opera, and chamber music and recitals. The summer music festival features the highly-regarded Orchestra of St. Luke's, along with bel canto opera performances, a wide range of chamber and recital concerts, as well as a fine jazz festival. Major concerts are held in the lovely Venetian Theater with its huge tent and comfortable seating, while small programs are held in the garden or in the courtyard of the Rosen Home. In the past few years, musical programs have been added in the fall and spring, including many through Caramoor's Rising Stars series with wonderful young musicians. You can bring your own food for dining on the picnic grounds before a concert, or order from Caramoor's own catering service. The whole experience is more relaxed and elegant than busy Tanglewood, and for many, summer begins and ends with concerts at Caramoor.

We went to the Caramoor on November 15, 2014 for a concert by John Fullbright. The concert took place in the Music Room of the mansion. It was so beautiful. The concert was wonderful also. After the show we were invited to a reception with beer and wine and snacks to meet the artist. It was a lovely evening.We are planning to go back in the summer for their American Roots outdoor concerts.

I was able to take the family on a walk on a cold snowy day through this beautiful historic property on a sunny day. This is one of these old estates where taking 4 seasons of photography is fun. No charge for walking the grounds and enjoying the solace.

Caramoor books good classical music and provides excellent seating. It is a beautiful site with lovely woods and trails.

Caramoor is a hidden estate in Northern Westchester. There is a mansion, gardens, arbors, lawns, gazebos, and a huge tent for music performances. The classical program is good, and the jazz program at the end of July is fun. There are many places to dine nearby, or you could bring a box dinner and picnic on the grounds.

Caramoor has a wonderful summer festival with outstanding programs with all types of music: jazz, classical, opera and musical theater. The surroundings are beautiful and you can also picnic before or after most concerts. They have a great July 4th celebration as well.

There's very little concern or facilities for those in wheelchairs.The concert was professional and enjoyable but we were only shown two rooms (including the concert room) because we had someone in a wheelchair with us. The volunteers (docents) were lovely and well-meaning but not professional. They didn't really understand anything about the needs of the disabled and elderly. This was the case even though the vast majority of attendees were bussed-in seniors.In one room the tour group left up a small staircase. We were just left standing there. No one bothered to tell us where to go after that. We found someone to ask and were directed to a tent in the distance, though the gardens. The various gardens were not special at all, although spacious and would make a good walk. The buffet in the tent was OK and plentiful. The washrooms nearby were large, spacious and clean. Our visit was made delightful by the perfect weather, rather than the place and its people.We were pleased to have visited but would not go back.
