zanadu's museum of curiosities

We always stop at Zanadu's Museum on our way to Lake George, great place. It's located right in the center of Lake George. After we take the tour we enjoy the great pizza next door!

Enjoyed this attraction in Lake George. Price Right, actually cheap. Enjoyed watching the magic too. Something to do while walking the strip. Would go back!

We went to visit a group of friends that were in the Lake George area as we had liked it so much from our previous visit. I suggested we go to Zanadu's so we did. Once again, for the price it was right and the staff there put on an impressive magic show! They said they close after Sept 1st., but open sometime in late Spring. It was neat to see the displays, would go back for a third time,

Went there and the place was closed. No signs as to hours of operation or if they were closed for the season or anything. I spoke with a few locals and local merchants who told me that the place is hardly open. One person told me that no matter when they tried to go there it was always closed. Reading some of the reviews here, I have a feeling I lucked out by it being closed. I do love curiosities and oddities and miss some of the Dime Museum-like venues.

Great place...we showed up near closing and the owner gave us a private magic show...nice people. Very interesting collection of items.

The local guide has coupons for various places in Lake George. This place had $1.00 off so when we arrived and the walk-in fee was only $6.49 we said heck why not with the extra buck off. I guess what would you expect for that price, but the place was pretty cool and had some neat historical items. I guess if you are someone who doesn't read, wants a lot of "Flash" and essentially doesn't know what a museum is, then it's not a place for you. However we give five stars for being inexpensive yet entertaining! Would go back.

Not what I expected for the price. Disappointed at the fact that there was only one floor. Some of the stuff inside was cool, but would not recommend for small children. My daughter was freaked out by the Exorcist wax figure.

We went with friends and had a coupon for $1.00. Not a huge place, but well worth the price of $5.49. Would go back, fun and something different.

If you like the tv show oddities you will like this place. It's relatively small but has some fun and interesting things. We enjoyed it.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Avoid this place at all cost. $32.00 down the drain. 105 degree weather outside and this place had no air conditioning and no ventilation. There is only one room full of nonsense artifacts like Elvis costume and nonsense alien stuff. Go to ripleys. It's 1000% better. I wish I could get my money back.

Went back for the 2013 season and was happy to see a price of only $6.50. Can't get too much these days for that price. Liked in last year and did manage to see some new things this time around. Our family likes this type of thing so we think it's real cool. These attractions are becoming hard to find. Notice they are open later in the afternoon and evenings. Fun way to spend some time and look at unique items. Will be back!

Never got into the see the attraction - there were no hour hours posted on the doors. We did manage to find it online, but again the doors were locked. Spoke to nearby vendors, and were told "They open when they feel like, theres no set hours" Sad. Were also told we werent missing much either so no harm, but a poor way to run a business.

This museum is a giant waste of money. Once you scale the staircase up, you are immediately charged admission with no description of what you might see, or what you are paying for. After paying 6 $ per person, you see a bunch of hoax like displays. Abraham Lincoln in an open casket? The ruby red slippers? A dead Alien in a coffin? A two headed cow head? A mine shaft? A statue of Elvis? I'm sorry.. did I pay to see this stuff? Seriously? There is an interesting display of things made from popsicle sticks, but it's not a 6$ per person attraction. It's popsicle sticks. There is also a handwriting/personality analysis for 2$, but once you do it, they give you a print out that is a graph. No written description of anything. I would not go back. Im sorry I went in the first place.

We went to Zanadu's Museum in August of 2012. The entire family enjoyed seeing the unusual items. Was priced right and there was no pressure to leave, we stayed for a while. The large popsicle stick structure which is in Guinness Book was very cool. That day we were there we actually did meet the man who constructed the castle, "Steve" I believe was actually there and we got to take a photo with him! We have been to Lake George many times and it was good to see a new attraction.

My family and I visited Lake George in August 2012. We had seen a pamphlet advertising this new museum, and our seven-year old daughter was quite interested in their claim of Titanic relics, so we made sure to stop on our trip down Canada Street. Zanadu has several nearby competitors, but few of the oddity museums seemed appropriate for our family: parents, a 14-year old, the aforementioned seven-year old, and an eighteen-month old baby. Due to our daughter's intense interest in the Titanic exhibit (and if you have kids, you understand what an intense interest a child that age can exhibit), we approached the museum, which is located on a second floor. After climbing the steep and narrow stairs, we reached the apex of humbuggery located within. We noticed a large, friendly "NO REFUNDS" sign near the cash register by the entrance, and, respecting the right of businesses to refuse returns, we decided it was better to ask the attendant a few questions before pressing on, unsure if the museum was appropriate for our family. Our younger kids are not particularly brave with this sort of thing, and haunted houses and wax museums located on Canada Street were absolutely not their thing. My wife, baby in her arms, asked if the museum was appropriate for young children, and the somewhat Eastern European attendant assured us (we assume she had seen the tender age of our children) that it was "not scary at all." The walk-through exhibit of the two-room museum begins with a display of popsicle stick art, not the kind kids bring home from summer camp, though-- there are several really big and intricate structures made from popsicle sticks. They claim the World's Largest Popsicle stick structure, but the Guinness people disagree. Regardless, the structures at Zanadu are impressive. The walk-through moves on into the larger, rear room, about the size of a decent living room, where the meager bulk of the exhibits are located. To our horror, the room featured, visible from all corners of the room, a model of Reagan from the Exorcist, as played by Linda Blair in the film. It was a model of the demon-faced little girl from the scariest part of the film's climax. Needless to say our seven year old was petrified and the baby wailed. There were also models of the Alien from the film franchise of that name, and a model of a shopworn zombie.We tried to take in the rest of the exhibits, with our son blocking the sight lines, but it became quite an embarrassing scream-fest. There are some remarkably well-done replicas: a replica of a suit worn by "Ronald Regan," and a replica of one of Elvis' jumpsuits from his later "Navajo Ice Cream Man" phase. These were mounted on appropriately sculpted mannequins. There was a collection of replicas of items from the Lincoln and JFK assassinations, and there was the case of replica items from the Titanic. We could not get my daughter calm enough to see the Titanic replicas, so we then we rushed out. As we careened at top speed down the stairs, we were lucky enough to encounter another family with young children ascending the stairs. We gave them the low-down on the exhibits, and they, wiser than we, turned heel and made for a better museum. Since Zanadu's offers neither good advice nor refunds, I consider us even after this family wasn't similarly defrauded.As to the quality of the exhibits, I would like to note that a replica of JFK's suit is, in fact, better described as "man's suit, 1960s" and a replica of an Elvis jumpsuit would be more properly tagged "Halloween costume, twentieth century." If one were interested in grammar, spelling, and history, the exhibit tags were a delightful display of hilarious mistakes.I would suggest this museum for those with extreme interest in popsicle stick art. And those interested in replicas of common items.It cost about thirty dollars for our four-person (and one infant who was not charged IIRC) to visit, albeit briefly, Zanadu's Museum of Replica Curiosities.
