We decided to make the drive thanks to all the great reviews... however, the drive was a bit long and the last stretch was through a one-and-a-half lane dirt road that is filled with pot holes, some big enough that I feared for my car's health. Take it slow and watch for those giant holes! Parking was super limited, and we had to drive a little ways off before we found what looked like a possible parking spot. The walk/hike was super easy/easy and short. The falls were pretty although kids and adults were climbing all over the rocks and the pools under the falls looked to be at capacity. we snapped a couple of pictures, which didn't look so nice with all the people in it, and decided to try out the rest of the trail as people had suggested that it led to a nice swimming area. The trail led to the shore of Lake George. It could have been a beautiful area to relax except it was filled with boats. There were people swimming off shore and we decided to make our trip worth it and cool off. However, before long we we found our self in shallow water with nowhere further to go as the boats were blocking the rest of the lake. There was also way too much oily pollution from the boats and jet skis. I say, skip this place, unless it's on the way and you'll be passing by anyway. I would not recommend going out of the way for it. If you do, I would suggest super early so as to hopefully avoid some of the crowds.

Be VERY CAREFUL on the Rocks. They are Slippery. I slid off my feet and landed onto my hip and shoulder. I thought I was gonna have to be airlifted out of there.Luckily, nothing major but it could have been worse.

I went to the falls in October and even in the fall they were flowing pretty good. It is an easy walk to the falls with just a short steeper section to get to the bottom on the falls. After checking out the falls, I recommend that you follow the brook downstream along the path to Lake George. There is a path with red markers that follows the shoreline for quite a ways. There are a lot of great views and good places for a picnic

The hike was very short and easy. Saw some folks even doing most of the walk with baby carriages. The falls were very pretty. We hiked about a mile past them, saw the lake and turned around. There wasn't much more beyond the falls on the trail. Next time we will hike to the top of the mountain.

The roads are Floored with small pebble rock but it was a comfortable ride even withMy sedan. From the parking lot it's just only 15 mins away.

My sister and I were driving around one day and discovered this place. It was a short walk in-about a half mile or so, and a good climb down the mountain. It is a spot that is clearly used more by the locals than tourists as it is VERY off the beaten path. Definitely worth going back to!

Very fun hiking trails, my boyfriend and I spent the whole day. The views of the lake and the mountains was beautiful.

Once we arrived at the falls, the ride there was definitely worth it. You need to be prepared as most of the way in is unpaved. We actually had a road crew in front of us regrading the road as it had rained the day before. But the hike was quite easy and very picturesque and the falls, though smaller, are beautiful.

We arrived to begin this hike around 8:30 am. It was a long drive on a narrow dirt road with only one parking space. ( We later discovered a large parking area beyond the trail head) The trail began with large, riverbed rocks to cross over. The rocks were stable, but I was glad to have my grandson's hand for balance. The trail after the rocks was flat and easy. The falls have several large tubes in them and made them not very attractive. There was not much water either. The hike to the bottom was easy and uneventful. I would not do this hike again.

Visited on 8/11/2014Get ready for a 20-25 minute drive through the woods, navigating a one-and-a-half lane dirt road that is littered with pot holes. It could have been worse, as oncoming drivers were super helpful and slowed/pulled over to allow us both to pass without an issue.Parking can be limited, so be prepared to either wait for something to open up or use your skills to angle into just the right spot. The walk/hike can be handled by pretty much anyone, as the trail is clean and wide. Though, the first 100 meters is one huge rock bed, but the rocks are stable and can be relied on for secure footing. Maybe it was the lack of rain/water this Summer, but the flow over the Falls was unimpressive. There were a couple of wading pools at the base of the Falls, but there were already a few folks present when we arrived and the pools looked to be at capacity.Through the quiet, we heard yelling/cheering/music and smelled food. We decided to walk deeper into the woods, and came across the lower part of Lake George. Pretty cool area for local boaters, etc. to hang out, drink, swim, and throw a ball around. I'll admit that this extra walked salvaged the hike for us, as we were able to break a sweat and felt like we actually got some exercise.

We were a group of families on vacation and read a lot about the Shelving Rock Falls. We have a few young adults with disabilities so we did not know what to expect. It was great. We had no trouble following the path (a few rocks on the trail in the beginning but easy to manage), We hiked down to the falls, then headed down to the Lake. It was gorgeous, there were boats in the water and everyone was swimming. It was very sandy once you got passed a few rocks on the shoreline (bring water shoes). The bathroom was a dirty outhouse so be prepared. We would go again. FROM LAND: Take exit 20 from I-87 the Adirondack Northway, Go east off the ramp to Rt. 9, go past the outlet malls and turn right on 149 fMap Of Shelving Rock Trail - Lake George, NYollow 149 east past Rt 9L until you find Buttermilk Falls Road on your left (approx 5.7 miles), you will see the Black Rooster on your left at this intersection. The name of the road changes from Buttermilk Falls to Sly Pond Road to Shelving Rock Road. Follow the road about 11 miles until you end up at the Hog Town Parking Lot (Lots of Signs). Prior to entering the parking lot - Take the left hand turn front of the signs. Follow this road until you reach the bridge. Park either before or after the bridge

If you want to take a break from the excitement of Lake George village take the drive to Shelving Rock Falls. The trail is clearly marked and well maintained. It can be rocky in areas but I would not consider it at all strenuous (we did not go further than the falls themselves because we were with small children) . The falls are beautiful and the kids had fun wading in the water and watching the tadpoles. I highly recommend visiting the falls.

We went to Shelving Rock Falls after visiting Prospect Mountain. The falls are nice to see and pretty, but they are small. Just be advised the road we took to get there was beyond "dirt road" and you need to drive slow on it. Also, the path you have to hike to get to the falls is rocky, so if you have any disability or are elderly, I would say to skip this one. My sons who are 19 & 25 enjoyed it, but we do like nature hikes.

Very nice and easy hike . Nice place to take pictures. Hike kind of stopped abruptly and wasn't sure were to go. Ride up to the trail is kind of scary especially if you have a bigger vehicle we had to push our windows in. Well worth the drive though.
