We were on a day trip to the Falls from New York and as part of this they took us to these three islands above the falls. Accessed via Goat Island there are bridges connecting these small microhabitats and it really does allow you to get close to the fast flowing river before it goes over the edge. Named after General Whitney's three daughters, who were one of the first settlers in the area in the early nineteenth century they say you can hear there voices whilst they traded with native Americans in the area. It's an interesting place but not that spectacular when compare to the other areas around the falls so if you have time check it out.
This again we enjoyed and it gave you the chance to the see the river and the falls from another view and also the bridges going over to the islands had been well thought out and allowed you to stop to to take photos. Yes you walked but it was a pleasant walk with many great views to keep you interested. We would again recommend this to anyone visiting the falls as it is part of the falls history and we enjoyed it.Thanks for reading John & Sue Eastbourne UK
The Canadian side is very nice, but the American side of the Falls is very natural and surrounded by a Park. Yes you can get better views of the falls from the Canadian side, BUT you cannot get the natural feel of the falls like you can on the American Side. We spent so much time enjoying the falls from the American side because of the natural setting and amazing trails that you can walk. We spent a few hours exploring these islands and probably took over 200 pics from this location alone. It is a must see for nature lovers!
Its is really knowledgeable to read the story of the the sister s.And the place being named after them. There is a opening here where in you can just touch the water of Niagara river and the place is awesome.
walk out to these little islands in the river before the falls. you will be amazed at how fast the water is moving. worth a quick stop since you are already at the park
this used to be a must, a back-to-nature retreat amid the natural and commercial hubbub of the surrounding falls and communities... now, in the name of improvement, they've paved it and fenced it off... honest, if it weren't for the big parking fees, you'd think it was Disneyland..
Quite quaint, especially views of the water birds there. See since you are there already. It's just a short walk down from The Cave of the Winds stop. There is a Trolley stop just in front, so you don't have to walk back to the Visitor Centre.
Rustic bridges, little inlets swirling around the edges of the 3 islands, and finally right in the middle of the river; before the start of Niagara Falls.
It's quite amazing to stand next to a very fast water that is soon to be dropped down from the falls.
You can drive to free parking and casually walk thru a natural area with little bridges connecting the islands. The kids might even a chance putting their feet in the water here just to say they did. LOL!
This is a great place to visit, especially if you are from out of town. As locals we take it for granted that we have such a nice place to visit with such great views of a wonder of the world. Bring your camera, walk over the bridges to the edge of the water and enjoy the rush.
Park at the other end of Niagara State Park to walk to the Three Sisters Island. Free 20 minute parking or $8 for all day parking in the bigger parking lot. Nice area to walk. Don't think it was best for wheelchair access though. We spent 20-30 minutes enjoying the Niagara River views and watching the ducks and seagulls. In nice warm weather bring a lunch or snack to eat and spend more time there. This location is on the opposite end of the park from the Falls viewing area.
The scenery from the islands is breathtaking. The last time we were here, the area was under construction. We were disappointed to find that the handicap parking is nowhere near the bridge entrance. The parking spaces are at the top of the steps, making for a long haul with a wheelchair. Otherwise, definitely worth the stop.
Interesting history of islands, nice scenery and well kept park. Unfortunately NYS must rip you off to park anywhere on the island.
We got dropped off by the Trolley and waked the trails. It was beautiful to be amongst the changing foliage and hearing the roar of the falls.
