My friend suggested we go here, she's vegetarian and even she couldn't believe the number of veggie burgers and food on offer for the non meat eaters. One of the best days we had in Williamsburg.
As a cultural experience this is pretty awesome. The highest quality ingredients in a mashup of ethnic and creative dishes. It's a no brainer for when you don't crave on specific thing. The vendors have to apply and be approved, so the culinary level is high - not like Michelin star snooty, just good yummy food, some of it quite inventive. Make sure you bring lots of cash; it's not that kind of food truck cheap street near experience. We spent a good $40 per person when we went (the lobster rolls might've tipped the balance...)
check out Ovenly and the Thai spots. Plenty of tables. Adjacent to Berg'n and to Brooklyn Flea. Many choices.
one of the best food festivals I've ever been to--we were there in November so no lines and amazing food. fun neighborhood to walk around. Expect to spend about $10 on everything you buy but we were not disappointed. Great soup desserts meats
We loved Smorgasburg, we were staying in Murray Hill so took the East River Ferry across which took about 20 minutes. You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to the food here - we had to go round a couple of times before deciding what we were having - I would advise skipping breakfast before you come, you could spend the day grazing ! I would personally recommend the Teriyaki Balls (and watching them being made was also an education !) but my friends also had Maple Lemonade, Won Tons, Veggie Schnitzel, miniature cheesecake, the list goes on...This is a nice fun thing to do if you're visiting Brooklyn for the day - we came here, went to the Brooklyn Brewery for a couple of beers and then came back for more ! You also get great views of Manhattan if you're looking for a pic of that iconic skyline...
Open air alternative food market on Williamsburg. Young people eating and enjoying the Hudson river banks. Cheap options, international flavors, music and cold drafts.
Went on a saturday and really enjoyed the experience. Lots of different vendors and a superb lobster sandwich.
This is a very fun outing. You can get here by boat from Manhattan or drive by taxi. There are over 30 stands serving artisinal eclectic food. We love the Indian offerings as well as the seafood specialty stand. Dough donuts are also here with a truck. Be prepared to wait in long lines at some of the more famous stands.
We've been to two of the locations; Central park and Williamsburg:Central Park: we came to this place before it got too crowded and we got to see everything before it became to crowded. The have a good selection of beer, wine and sweet and savory food. The lines for some of the booths are a bit too crazy with up to 1 hour wait for the fries and the ramen burger. A great venue for trying out some local foods at a good price. Friendly people and good atmosphere.Williamsburg: more or less the same, including the lines.
We took the citibike here, which contributed to the experience. There are dozens of vendors, so pick wisely. Our rule of thumb was to eat where there are queues. It was proven right and we got great burgers and roasted meat. You take your food and eat it on the east river bank which has an amazing Manhattan view. Note that this market is not recommended in a hot day as there's little shade.
A friend told us about it so we choose to go on our Brooklyn trip on Saturday and stopby. Good choice! The event takes place in Williamsburg wich is a nice place to hang out, and after getting there you got plenty of food to decide from. The ambiance is fun and familial
Food carts on a nice day in the park... It's the perfect thing to do on your day off. Make sure you bring an appetite and cash as some places don't take card. I would also wear comfortable clothing/shoes and pack light as you can walk around and take in some pretty sights on a nice day. I'm one that likes choices and Smorgasburg has choices from as simple as grilled cheeses to as savory as Indonesian or Brisket to as eccentric as Teriyaki Balls and Bruffin... oh and there's dessert too -- ranging from ice cream to cupcakes to macaroons. This is now probably one of my favorite things to do when I go to Brooklyn. I recommend getting there closer to the beginning or middle as they run out of things toward the end of the day. Also, try a few different carts and go with a few people... but you won't get to try everything you want. I look forward to the next time I go.
We walked over the Brooklyn Bridge to get to Smorgasburg; it was already buzzing when they opened at 11am - there are dozens of vendors with the food greatly differing between each. There was so much choice it was difficult to decide what to get. A couple of stalls had huge queues, the rest of the stalls, although popular, didn't have such long wait times. We opted for a Raman Burger (where the burger is wrapped in pressed noodles instead of a bun), some Home Frite fries, and vegetable dosas. Alongside lots of freshly made lemonade. The burger and frite queues were two of the longest but I can see why - they were so fresh and the flavours were fantastic. I highly recommend both of these. The only downside is that there isn't a lot of seating options, and what they do have isn't under and cover so if the weather is hot (which it was) it's a little frustrating having to eat your food in the blistering heat and if it's raining then you've nowhere to seek cover. Aside from the seating issues (and the portable toilets which I would stay clear of), this is a fantastic food market and highly recommended. Amazing place! Everything you want to eat in just one place, I wish some of the places offer so my kind of degustation menu so you can try everything thanks to the small portions, but is just a fatty thought. I went to 2 places, teriyaki balls and seafood fritters. Both of them great! Good quality and portion for value.
We were staying in Brooklyn on holiday and heard about Smorgasburg and so visited both of its locations (Williamsburg and Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5). The variety of food was outstanding and reasonably priced - with the bonus of both locations having fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline across the water. Highlights for me included Bite Me Cheesecakes, Dunwell Do-nuts and amazing Octopus balls at a stall whose name escapes me at the Williamsburg location. It's great because the vendors are so friendly and the atmosphere is great - I wish I could go back every week! (If only flights from the UK were cheaper!)
