Beautifully designed in downtown Saratoga Springs, with history and the originaly Saratoga Hotel, this park is elegantly laid out for a picnic, stroll or to taste the wonders of Saratoga Spring Water!
Congress Park is the most amazing park retaining it's small resort town charm with famous Saragota Spring waters bubling up to several spring water fountains, a historic Casino from yesterday and an authentic eastern coast carousel to ride preserved in its own modern structure. The park takes on additional charm with statuary complete with water fountains designed by noteworthy artisians including Daniel Chester French's "Spirit of Life," who also created the Lincoln Memorial. The park's pond and meandering brooks are home for a wonderful population of ducks which provides another stimulating yet calm and contemplative dimension to this amazing park. There is also a band shell which seems to float on a small land bridge into the pond which provides yet another inspiration to this photographer's wonderland. The floral clock on the park's perimeter comes to life in the warmer summer months to delight those merely passing by. The main entrance way has a regal welcoming sign combined with artistic heralding Congress Park's centrality to the life of iconic Saratoga Spings.
I took out-of-town family members to Congress Park. We spent hours just wandering around the beautiful gardens. It is very nicely kept up and very clean!! A great place to relax or just walk, walk and walk.
I have been here many times over the years and the place is always immaculately kept up. The old restored casino is elegant as are the fountains and the old carousel. Nice to think of this place during the cold snowy winter here in Ohio. I will be back next summer!!! It is relaxing even during the racing season and there are always colorful annual plantings as well. Agree with other reviewers...its not really a destination in itself...just a nice place to stroll and relax....it is a little hilly and some of the paths are relatively steep so be aware of that.
Congress Park is the gem of downtown Saratoga. The best sites are the Spirit of Life - Trask Memorial and the Spit and Spat fountain. Sit on the lawn or on benches and take in the scenery. In the season, the City offers rides on a restored carousel. The restored Casino houses a museum on the history of the city. Parking can be a problem but there is a parking garage across Spring Street from the park.
Such a pretty, shaded place. Wonderful for bikes, too. Even when the town is socked in by August heat, the shaded park lanes allow outdoor activities.
....walking the paths, the various setting areas and watching the newly engaged as they work with their photogtraphers!!! who can turn down a ride on an authentic indoor carousel!
This is a really small park in the City of Saratoga Springs. You can't miss it if you walk on Broadway, our favorite activity (we live in Saratoga). There's not much in the park, it is not really a destination in itself, but a pretty walk, across from the old Casino building.
We love going to Congress Park. It is so quaint and beautiful. Congress Park is very scenic with breathtaking views. The park is clean and well kept. It is fun to watch the ducks swim in the pond. You can go for a leisurely stroll all year long or ride the historic wooden carousel during the summer. On the grounds of the park is the historic Canfield Casino. There are four mineral springs to see in Congress Park. They are: Deer Park Spring, Columbian Spring, Congress Spring, and Hathorn Spring. These are only four of the 18 active mineral springs in Saratoga County. Congress Park is located in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs. Highly recommended for a great family day that you will not soon forget.
Walking through the park is very nice. There is a big enclosed carousel you can ride for $1. My hotel room overlooked the park as well. The views of the park where lovely. It had just snowed, so everything looked quite lovely. Families & pet owners definitely taking advantage of the sites, with sleigh riding & pups running around enjoying the park. I'm sure it must be very nice in the warmer weather.
Pretty park in which the Canfield Casino is located. There are ponds and seats with shade. The kids can run and chase the ducks which are plentiful. There is also a antique horse carousel for children and adults alike. A fun, relaxing afternoon when the weather is nice.
The park is in the center of town. It is always hoping in the spring/summer and fall. There is a wooden horse carousel in the park which you can ride for a dollar. There are also several art festivals throughout the summer. Perfect place for a picnic and some Frisbee. Bathrooms are close by in the basement of the Art Center which backs up to the park.
Congress Park is a wonderful place to spend a short stroll through or a whole day of peace and enjoyment any time of year. There are trails to stroll around in the spring with flowers and many ducks near the ponds and several benches and vast lawns throughout to picnic on in warmer weather. Several fountains are in the park including the Spit & Spat one in the garden area. Winding paths lead to the antique restored Carousel where children and adults can ride for $1 while listening to calliope music. There are several spots where the springs can be tasted throughout the city and in this park as well. The restored Canfield Casino with its history museum and event space is also prominent in the park. In the summer there are plays and music concerts on the grounds and the Fourth of July celebration can also be seen here. In the winter snowshoeing & XC skiing and of course sledding can be done down the hills when it snows. All close by to the downtown hotels & restaurants. enjoy!
Congress Park is so beautiful. We always have a great time watching the ducks at the different ponds, or sometimes just bring a picnic lunch, hang out under a gorgeous tree and watch the world go by. It is quite large, with lots of fountains, and an old carousel that was beautifully restored. They have very pretty flowers, and there is usually something going on, like fairs or a civil war weekend. Always something to do when you come here, or you can read a book in peace and just do nothing. Either way, you will leave happy and serene.
Quaint park gives you an authentic Saratoga Springs experience, whether it is watching the little ones on the beautiful Carousel with accompanying calliope music, strolling down many of the paths with others enjoying the day or gazing over the many ponds and springs (have not found any spring water here that tastes good but the waters are purported to have healing properties by those who believe). This is the perfect people watching place! View children playing on the lawn, people playing fetch with their happy pooches, happy newlyweds and their wedding parties having pictures taken, people feeding the ducks ( I don't think you are supposed to do so?) , people on line to fill their vessels with that spring water ( I don't get it- it is certainly not the Saratoga Water that is delicious and which is bottled not far away).I think every season has it's charm but maybe summer and fall are my favorite times. Hope you get the chance to visit.
