Liked the tucked away feel of this beautiful place. The history of the family, house and property is remarkable and the gardens are Gorgeous! Wonderful examples of Italianate sculptures & fountains but the highlight is of course the rose garden. Just remember to be quietly respectful of the Artists that are in residence here, as it is actually a very small part of a very respected Artist Retreat.
This is truly a hidden gem in Saratoga. Worth the visit as we did it with a group of 40 seniors with a docent who was very knowledgeable about the venue.
A perfect place to meet your lover. Julie Hill, particularly pleaded with my husband to meet her there. It once was a place of beauty. Now, my heart sinks every time I drive by.
In the Spring, Summer and Fall the gardens are a gorgeous place to wander around. There is so much history ( a good deal of it tragic ) surrounding the mansion, property and Trask family. Last Fall I was lucky enough to go on a tour inside the mansion and it's beauty was overwhelming. Beautiful way to spend a few hours, a must see if you visit Saratoga!
A regular visitor to these beautiful gardens. I won't spoil it but you have to take in the story when you visit not just the sights and scents : )
This is one of many wonderful FREE sights in Saratoga Springs! Although you can't go up to the house, you can drive into the grounds and explore the gardens for free. The gardens have several different individual sections, including a rose garden, fountains, a covered trellised area, and a wooded garden. I've been to many weddings here in the gardens and for good reason: it's beautiful here! Bring a book or a camera on a nice day and just hang out. It's fun to watch the tourists in the summertime. Also, it's extremely convenient off Exit 14 of the Northway (I-87). If you're on a long road trip, stop here quickly to stretch your legs!
We had a very peaceful morning stroll here during autumn. The color of the leaves reflecting in the pond was spectacular. The formal italian garden is very touching.
Yaddo was open for a rare tour of the house on 9/21/14. This was a fundraiser to raise money for the maintenance/care of the estate. The Tiffany windows in the house were magnificent! A beautiful place.Only complaint is that our particular tour guide read a lot of the information from a book. I realize that Yaddo rarely has tours, but I felt like I knew almost as much about the family as he did!
Visited a little late in the season, but the gardens were still serene. I especially enjoyed the fountain and statuary. Tip: the pea gravel on the paths can be hard to walk on if you are wearing heels.
Lovely place to walk and enjoy. Very peaceful and pretty. I really enjoyed the rose garden and statues. Wish I could tour the house!
The Yaddo Gardens, part of the Yaddo, estate offer a rare glimpse of the opulence that once was Saratoga Springs. The Mansion, a famous artist colony, is not open to the public, but the garden below, with its beautiful lattice work, fountains and flowers is, and is free and open to the public. If you are in the area, you must see this lovely reminder of the grandeur that once was Saratoga Springs.
It was exciting to visit Yaddo, after reading about it for so many years. Although we could only visit the gardens and see the big house from afar, it was thrilling to think that in the nearby cottages, some of the world's greatest writers had gone on retreat.
Once one hears about the lives of the Trask's, one can't help but "feel" the love that they had for each other and their children. The planning and foresight given to Yaddo was such a deep commitment to future artists - totally unique. Certainly turning a tragic situation into something forever good for the world witness by extension, as our greatest artists find their voices.
Every time I've been in Saratoga Springs, NY, I've wanted to see the gardens but never did so until this month (August 2014). Wow, what a wonderful surprise it was, almost like a secret garden. The grounds are gorgeous and perfect for anyone who is seeking a quiet place to unwind and relax. For me, this was an opportunity to capture some images to bring home so that I can have them made into posters and enjoy them on the wall of my office! (See my photos)
Just dropped in for a quick visit after checking out. Ended up staying until forced to leave. Such a beautiful place. Leave enough time to see and enjoy the entire experience.
