I had driven by this museum on a number of occasions, and finally decided to check it out a few years ago for one of the "Living History" days. I was amazed there was so much back off the little dirt road I had driven by. This is an impressive working museum property that keeps growing. This year they have added a working shingle mill and the Lombard lumber hauler (basically a steam engine on wheels and tracks) is up and running. There are plenty of opportunities for photographs on the grounds. During the "Living History" days, the reenactors do a wonderful job of giving a period correct experience from battle encampments to an operational smoke house.
This is the 3rd year in a row we go to Logging History Days. It's not just about the mill. Hands on learning, from bisquits on open fire, making own cider, spun angora, blacksmithing, to trails, horse drawn wagon rides etc. Beautiful time of year. A family membership is only $40 so join and save some money on your large family entry. Or join anyway and give to a good cause. WE LOVE it here.
