Alison, thank you for taking the time to visit Prescott Farm and to leave a review. We're sorry you didn't enjoy your experience at the farm. The buildings on the northern part of the site are privately rented to tenant-stewards who care for the homes, restored by the Newport Restoration Foundation. The museum site on the south side is unguided, outdoors and open year-round dawn to dusk. We hope you'll visit us in 2015 during programs at the site to have the chance to speak with our knowledgeable staff. Please visit www.newportrestoration.org for our events calendar. Thanks again for your visit and review.

Extremely knowledgeable tour guides. Very helpful Master Gardeners. The history of New England is at your fingertips. Highly recommend.

The last Wednesday of the month, July through September, there is a Windmill Open House that we attended. There was staff giving tours of the windmill, staff making johnnycakes and serving windmill cookies (which my daughter loved), live music, and time to explore the gardens, grounds, and duck pond. The event is free. The staff was very knowledgeable. Seeing the windmill and being able to interact with the knowledgeable staff to ask questions was wonderful. There was a port-a-potty available, but no indoor restrooms.

We have been driving by this Farm for years. I finally looked it up and decided on our next drive to Newport, we would stop in. There are a lot of old restored buildings, a windmill from 1812, a small bridge in a wooded area with a little stream under it, kitchen garden, herb gardens and a nice area to walk around in. There are also 2 picnic tables making this an excellent scenic picnic spot. Tucked away in a corner is a well maintained port a potty. (with kids this can be important to know)There is a small parking lot out front, and it is free to visit.I do not know that I would travel here specifically since you cannot go in the buildings & there are not tour guides or anything like that, but we did enjoy walking around, viewing the gardens, reading the information about the windmill and former property owners & how they came to be in the location.I LOVED the fenced in herb garden. It is maintained by the URI Master Gardeners, and they have everything marked and also listed on a form telling you what each thing is, what it does and which bed it is grown in. Learned a lot from walking around the well maintained raised beds.If you like history and a serene place to walk around, this is a great stop. My kids enjoyed looking around as well.

This farm is worth a visit, and if the weather allows, a picnic! For a small price you can feed the birds and for free you can enjoy the guinea hens, geese, ducks, and chickens. Also, enjoy the picturesque gardens and historic little buildings (especially the windmill). The staff is friendly and the location is convenient for stopping in when on the way to or from somewhere.

So pretty, however watch out for the geese if you bring food to feed them, they will attack. Other then that it was a charming farm!!

We really liked the history of the farm. While we were there, they were making johnnycakes that everyone could sample plus apple cider, and there was a group playing music that would have been played when the farm was in operation. It was as if we had stepped back in time.

On a busy state road but the minute you turn into Prescott Farm you are transported to another era. This was an important Revolutionary War site, a working farm until the 1950s and now a great place to get close to an historic windmill, a little colonial house and lovely grounds and gardens. The children will enjoy feeding the rambling geese too.I can add a little history about the small house you will see at the front of the property near the road. This house was on property in Portsmouth which my father bought in 1948. The story we were told about this little house included its colonial origins and that the last ferry captain of the Bristol Ferry was born in it in the 19th century. While we never confirmed the story the little house was important enough that my family sold it to the group re-inventing the farm property sometime in the late 20th century. The outside has been painted; I always knew it as an old shingled rundown house that I played in as a child. That is why I always nod my head to it when I drive by it.Go to Prescott Farm for a respite from modern day tourism, you will not regret doing so!

This is a little known spot in Middletown. It is a great place to bring children. We recently visited and brought our children to feed the ducks. My son also enjoyed seeing a goose walk by. There is no admission and is a great place to take photos.

Beautiful! Love Old Historic Windmills. It was something to show the kids. The grounds are free and open to the public daily dawn to dusk. A must see if you are in the area. See website for history.
