I appreciate bluegrass music but don't really know much about its history. This museum offers valuable and surprising insights, along with genuine artifacts, rare video and photo documentation, and a good narrative you can follow easily. Plan on spending about an hour and for $5 it is totally worth it.

You will love this place if you are a Bill Monroe fan. Half of the museum is dedicated to him. The remainder is focused around the other huge names. Very little on current bands and I was shocked that there was nothing for The Boys From Indiana there. Members of that group have been inducted into the hall of fame.......

The museum was small but interesting. There is a movie included (it's 1 1/2 hrs long!) about the history of bluegrass. Staff is friendly.

Took a large group of middle school children- the staff was great! Took a tour of the museum, as well as had an instructional time on the history of bluegrass and some of the instruments used. Kids were allowed to use the instruments- they learned so much!

About once a month an entertainer comes. Some are not totally bluegrass, like a fractured version. Can purchase t shirts. cds. In the summer they sponsor a bluegrass festival that has entertainers from Boz Skaggs, Steve Martin, Emmy Lou Harris, all the way to bluegrass like you would think. People come for this from Europe

The museum was fun and the check-in guy was friendly and helpful. We were the only folks there, so no one played anything that interfered with our music playing. We watched about half the movie then moseyed around playing music by different artists. It is not a big museum but then neither does it cost much. We enjoyed taking a little time to sit at display cafe tables and make selections on the free jukebox. We were fortunate to be there on the night of their monthly jam session. The museum was opened for people to bring their instruments and sit and play and sing. People came with steel guitar, violins, mandolins, harmonica, bass, guitars, etc. When we left, the group had split into 3 little groups around the museum, each making their own music. Very fun to experience.

We found this museum and its topic so captivating we plan to come back for the one of the music festivals next summer. While the movie was a bit long, it was really interesting . And we could have spent a lot more time listening to the audio clips and reading the fascinating stories so thoughtfully assembled about the evolution of Blue Grass music. (They could use some more venue specific postcards in the gift shop, though.) A worthwhile stop.

We stopped on Sunday the 7th of July and waited for the place to open. Sign said it opened at 1 on Sundays so we arrived at that time. No one showed up except some others who wanted to see the museum. We waited about 30 minutes and then called the number and the message box was full. Waited another 15 minutes and walked across the street to the Science museum and they said the place had been robbed about a week before and anyway they were in the process of moving. If that's the case it would be nice if they would put a note on the door!!!!!!

We are bluegrass fans. We came to Owensboro to see this museum. We loved all the exhibits and the movie. Take a jacket, the AC was cold!

The Bluegrass Museum was the reason we came to Owensboro. It is a must stop for the bluegrass fan. Good exhibits featuring the history of bluegrass music and all of it's biggest stars. Many exhibits feature music or interviews to listen to. Very knowledgeable staff. For 5 bucks, it is well worth the visit.

lot of Bluegrass Music history. Well worth the 5 dollar cover. The amount of artifact and clothing along with how it got its start was very interesting.

I've visited the museum several times in the past few years.Being a bluegrass fan as long as I can remember I find this museum a wonderful place. There is a large exhibit(s) in place to honor Bill Monroe who is a hero to so many of us. It's good to see most of the first generation pioneers represented.Being a historian of the music there is a few things I would change at the museum, but that becomes a matter of personal preference.I wish the likenesses on the Hall of Fame plaques were a little more accurate. Some of them don't look a whole lot like the artist.Overall though, the staff has brought this museum a long way in a few years. They have a nice gift shop with a large selection of CDs and DVDs.
