A must see landmark when visiting the Louisville area. Can get a little crowded on weekends. Very nice perspective of the Great Ohio River. Great fun for the kids.
The views from the bridge are great and it's a nice walk we were there in March and the weather was pleasant and it wasn't crowded
This is such a great idea from the city of Louisville! So many people who work in the downtown area use the bride for a walk during lunch. It is a fantastic way to get a little exercise in for the day!
I took some out of town family members to the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge after a tour of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience (a perfect combination) and I think I got more enjoyment than they. As a Louisville resident, I have watched the development of this pedestrian walk/experience for years and it has had a place on my "Bucket List." Although it was cold at the time of year, I would certainly recommend it to anyone regardless of the time of year. The gradual climb up he ramp on the Louisville side, the bridge was a superb view and vantage point for activity along the Ohio River and the KY and Indiana shore lines. We even got to watch a couple of barge and tow boats plowing the river beneath the bridge. The entire path is posted with informative (tasteful) posters which explain the bridge and its important role in transportation and industry in Louisville and the region. I would recommend at least 1.5 hours, and more if you plan to traverse the entire KY to IN shores. The ramps make it possible to bring strollers and is "handicape-able" for those in wheelchairs with an adventurous disposition. Also, this is a bike friendly adventure!
A steep climb up to the top but my 86 year old mother didn't have a problem. Great views, only a half mile or so across. Nice frozen yogurt shop on the IN side in summer.
This bridge was 13 years in it's conversion from a dilapidated rail trestle to a super modern multi-use crossing. Cross over to Indiana and dine on Spring Street (recommended) or just walk halfway and back for a decent workout. Bikes allowed but can be crowded. NO DOGS ALLOWED!
We loved this walk and also enjoyed visiting old downtown Jeffersonville on the opposite side of the river. Make sure you visit the old candy shop where they hand make candy in the window.
We were killing some time before we had to go to dinner, so someone suggested going to the bridge. It was a fairly nice day with a breeze. The views from the bridge, especially when you get to middle, are fantastic. You can literally stand in the middle of the Ohio river. It is a pretty good walk all the way to the Indiana side so we only went half way. Would suggest it for everyone including kids.
This is my favorite attraction to take people from out of town. It's free. It's amazing. It's active. It's relaxing. It's great photography. It's for the young and old, the handicapped and the fit. It's the best part of living here and I'm SO proud of it!
Great way to see the city skyline on both sides of the river and get some exercise as well. Watched the steamboat parade from here in 2014. Also, it's FREE! Easy walk from state to state.
Fun for all and a great way to see the Waterfront and stretch your legs. Bring your camera and get some sunset shots too. Afterwards, walk over to Tumbleweeds for dinner!
We rode our bikes across the bridge for exercise and for fun. The bridge is an excellent amenity for residents and tourists, but I would like to see the lanes for bikers and walkers designated more clearly.
We have been there in January. The waterfront park is disappointing in the winter. The bridge is nice with nice view, but that's it.
Love to walk the Big Four Bridge and watch the traffic on the river. Great photo ops. Especially enjoy now that the Indiana side is open.
The Big Four Bridge is awesome. The scenery as you walk across the bridge over the Ohio River is awesome. Only problem is, there have been several highly publicized instances of people getting mugged on the bridge. That is unfortunate, because the scene is so good. Go during the middle of the day when there are a lot of people on the bridge.
