Friendly welcome on arrival. Good 10-minute video introduction and an impressively varied range of exhibits. I particularly liked the x-ray machine which looked like a risk to life!

Great taxidermy. Probably the best I've ever seen. I wasn't too excited about this museum before going, but actually had a blast. Take an hour and check it out.

This is a very nice county museum. We visited it in relation to our visit to the Bear Paws Battlefield. It has a nice collection of artifacts pertaining to the battle. The shop also has a nice selection of books on this era of history. The volunteer on duty was very nice.

Enjoyed the historical collections, dinosaur specs in, Chinook hour with Maida exhibit, and Chief Joseph presentation. Museum staff very friendly and donation based fees.

In the small town of Chinook, MT is the unexpected pleasure of one of the finest museums I've ever seen (and I've been to Washiington, D.C.'s museums). This one is small and obviously assembled with great care and respect to 'yesteryear'. The displays are varied....never boring....and just a great delight. Our purpose was to go just outside the town to visit the Bear Paw Battlefield where Chief Joseph surrendered to the U.S. government. You can go there: Bear Paw Battlefield.com. The Blaine County Museum: http://www.blainecountymuseum.com/index.html This destination is on the route toward Glacier National Park. If you are going anywhere in that area please do not miss these too sites. It is time well spent. For us it will always be a fond memory. (Sorry this is late....the visit date was around 2007.)

The highlight here is the AV program detailing the Battle of the Bear Paw, in which Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce surrendered. The museum serves as the interim visitor center for this NPS site and the program is quite good. Otherwise the museum is about what you would expect for a facility of its kind: local stuff, amateurishly but lovingly displayed and presided over by a knowledgeable and friendly one-woman staff. If you are going to visit Bear Paw Battlefield while driving the Hi Line, stop here first.

For such a small town, Chinook has 2 great museums. This museum has some great artifacts from the area and a very interesting presentation on the Bear Paw Battlefield. Everything is well presented. Definitely worth a stop.

Located in the little town of chinook, the musuem is an interpretive center. The just remodeled about a year ago and they did an awesome job. Friendly staff and good prices. My daughter has gone there like 6 times with her school.

There is a lot of good information about the Nez Perce journey to Canada and being caught by the U.S. military at the nearby Bear Paw Battlefield, which is a must-see visit. There is some outstanding sculpture depicting the battle. All in all, the museum is a pleasant surprise for a small town on the long journey across North Dakota.

Does a terrific job of explaining the culture of Montana/the West during the 19th century and acts as a perfect suppliment to the Bear Paw Battlefield

On our way to Bear Paw National Battlefield, we stopped by the Blaine County Museum in Chinook in northern Montana. It acts as the visitor center for Bear Paw. Be sure to check out the film "40 Miles to Freedom" – it is outstanding! This museum is also a site on the Montana Dinosaur Trail. The bookstore has a good collection of books on Western and Montana history. The museum is open 8 am to Noon – closed for lunch and then opens 1 to 5 PM. They are not open on weekends after Labor Day. There is no fee, but they do take donations. I have been visited many small museums, and this one is a gem. Keep in mind that Bear Paw battlefield, 16 miles out of town, has not been commercialized at all. Take water along, it can be hot. But don't let that discourage you. It is very much worth visiting.

Excellent museum with many, varied displays. Could spend hours here (and we did). Check out downstairs also - another expansive display. The Bear Paw battlefield AV show is very good. Staff were extremely helpful and have wonderful archives and helped with tracing family history. Great bookshop too with the best selection of Montana books I came across. Check out the Natural History Museum next door too - apparently excellent but closed over the winter but will open on request. Well worth coming to Chinook to visit.
