museum of the beartooths

We found this small museum in Columbus, Montana as we were leaving the Red Lodge area going towards Billings, after crossing the Beartooth highway. It is operated by the Stillwater Historical Society & has historical information on this corner of Montana. There are exhibits on miners, frontiersmen, cattle industry and Native cultures. There are also things outside to go through. The museum gift was small, but had a variety of items including books by local authors. Admission is free – but we gave a donation. I am increasingly finding as we travel, that the small local museums are truly gems. That is how you find out about the local area and are small enough to really learn! The big ones that take all day to go through – just sometimes makes you exhausted! It is easy to find, not far off I90 exit 408. Be sure to make time on your trip to go across the very scenic Beartooth Highway and pass.
