Its a tiny little museum that used to be the first jail in Thompson Falls, named after David Thompson. It serves as a meeting place for the Historical Society and is maintained by the same. It hosts a variety of items from the days when the town was first discovered/created, items that show life as it was in the 1800's and early 1900's, several books on life in the olden days, pictures of the first "jail break" and a host of other interesting items. There are books on several of the lookouts in the area where people will live during the summers to "spot" fires. Worth the visit. Docents are very knowledgeable.
We live in Thompson Falls and finally took the time to stop by the museum. It is small but has a lot of interesting stories, history, and nice exhibits/artifacts. Depending on if you read ALL the little articles and descriptions (or how fast of a reader you are) it could take a couple hours. It is run by volunteers and when we were there the lady sitting in was very nice and helpful. She even entertained our 3 year old. We will definitely be back and probably bring family and friends here when they visit.
Well worth the few dollars admission, this museum does a wonderful job of showing life for both the Sheriff's family and the inmates, including the women and children. Neatly displayed with easy to read information cards that add anecdotes to make history come alive, the museum was staffed with delightful and helpful volunteers and is a little gem well recommended.
