jenkins plantation museum

This is a real Civil War General's home and a real mansion of it's day....where else can you find this/ Much money has been wasted by the govt. trying to mess with really NOT fixing it up; but hopefully that is behind us now; maybe it will reopen for tours.

I visited the home several years ago and was looking forward to seeing it again. Sadly, when I arrived today I found it boarded up and no trespassing, property of U.S. government signs. Sadly, probably a sign of our poor economic times! Built in 1835 the home is probably the most northern plantation home still in existence. When it was open it featured period furniture and was a good example of grand homes of the time. On my last visit they told me there were plans to excavate some of the area of the slave quarters and possibly rebuilding them. Alas, this will probably never happen. I really hope they find the means to reopen the home!
