I had read some of the other reviews and thought this place might be interesting for about 45 min to an hour. My wife and I couldn't even make it 10 minutes. Other than a few "replica" fossils of dinasours and some minor rocks I would suggest don't waste your time. Everything is in a one room area with one display on the second floor on how to drill for oil. The one thing this place had going was it is free and if you enjoy reading small note cards about a few dinasours or minerals I would suggest finding something else to do with your time. I will add the drive is very pretty with Cheat Lake along the 3 minute drive from the main road. You can take some very nice pictures of the colorful trees across the lake and there are two bridges that look very cool on a nice day.

I learned many new things, found this Museum very good. I'd surely make it a must see for others.,, I will surely visit it again.

As previously stated, it's a great way to kill some time in Morgantown. We hit up Ruby & Ketchy's (a local restaurant) for lunch and this is located right down the road off of Cheat Lake. I had no idea it was even here. Not very big at all but interesting for WV. Actual dinosaur bones on display and several replicas. From anaconda skin to tiny bat jaws, there were some neat things. Free to see, and if you like history and artifacts, a great way to kill 45 mins. :-)

No one knows of this museum, including the people that work there. They were shocked that anyone would visit. That have some nice minerals and fossils, but no employee seems to know anything

We look for unexpected delights that are off the beaten path. When visiting the Morgantown, West Virginia area, travelers are likely to drive over Cheat Lake without stopping just off I-68 by the Lakeview Resort. A nearly hidden road passes below Lakeview and along the lake front to the headquarters of the West Virginia Geology and Economic Survey Office. Inside there is a surprise for enterprising visitors. A full fledged museum of fossils and minerals along with maps showing the geology of the state and region. There are many display cases with stories to tell and some rather ominous looking dinosaur fossils and replications of fossils. You won't see as much as one does at the Carnegie museum in Pittsburgh but there are no crowds and you can spend plenty of time among the displays reading the descriptive material. Especially recommended for children, this is a good way to spend an extra hour before heading out on your next adventure.
