We picnicked on a bench, then hiked the full trail down along the Monongahela River. We really appreciated that many of the trees/plants were labelled and also the signs about local geology and history! Don't miss this area if you enjoy walking.
It is a very nice place to visit and walk around. I went with a friend and took some great pictures there.
I love that there is a trail that loops around the entire area and then other trails that make a spider web off of it. This trail is great for beginner to intermediate hikers. Some of the trails are steep though. I like being able to down to the river but you can't walk next to the water for long.
Such a wonderful treasure in Morgantown. If you love to walk in nature then you will love this place. It can be an intense workout though so make sure you wear the right shoes. The hike down is wonderful but the hike back up can be hard. But there are benches to rest at in wonderful locations so you can take it all in. There are lots of different trails to take depending on what you are interested in.
Spring is my favorite time to hike here the month of April particularly as the forest is carpeted with wildflowers including my favorite bluebells.
A wonderful hiking experience that takes you through woodland settings, marshy areas and a bit of the rail trail. This is easy enough for an inexperienced hiker, but I will say having my hiking stick helped me navigate some muddy downhill terrain. Trees are labeled and the bird species are listed on a flyer at the start of the trail. Bring your binoculars, camera and water so you can enjoy all this place has to offer.
Accompanied Walks are held from time to time as weather and classes permit. Located close to WVU coliseum and Creative Art Center. Park in coliseum parking lot and walk to arboretum.Lovely in the Spring and Fall.Fall gives peeks of the Mon River.
Very well maintained, peaceful hiking with easy to medium trails which cross the rail trail and go to the river. I live in Morgantown and enjoy the arboretum in all seasons.
We spent a couple of hours here and it is a very nice place to visit. The trails are overall in good shape. Some of them are strenuous so be prepared if you choose to go down to the river. But, the hike is worth the trip!
I love going here in the spring and the fall to gaze at the wonders of nature. Great selection of plants and trees to look at.
This is a beautiful place for easy to medium level hiking. It is located near the Coliseum, and a walk in the arboretum is always refreshing. The trees are labeled providing an educational experience also. If you want to spend a couple of hours with nature and not drive far away this is the ideal place.
A wonderful place to take a leisurely walk. Parking is somewhat limited and remember as you start down the pathway from the parking lot that you will need to walk back up that hill too.
It is a nice little walk that shows some local plant life and if you're lucky maybe some local wildlife.
So many different trees labeled! Interesting to learn what they are and where they grow. Totally free adventure. The trails and grass are kept up and in good shape for walking. Would make for a great picnic area. The ampitheater is neat. Unfortunately the flowers are not in bloom at this time but it was lovely nonetheless. Middle of the city forest! :-)
My only disappointment is I didn't visit sooner. I only lived in Morgantown for a few years but visit several times a year. I love trees, and this is the place to go for trees! We onlly visited the 3 acres of "lawn" planted with specimen trees (skipped the steep trails that lead to the river). It was so beautiful and peaceful. The rhododendron were in bloom and were just amazing. My favorite tree was the dawn redwood. This place is easily missed but look for it and give it a try if you want to spend some time in nature or feel the need to hug a tree.
