The price is really reasonable, the staff is more than friendly! We had the kayaks for all day (until 6pm). Plenty of time to relax and enjoy wildlife and nature. It was just perfect. In four hours we only met 4 boats so it is really quiet. Thank you Shannon for everything!!!
I can't recommend kayaking on Bayou Lacombe highly enough. Bayou Adventures did a great job. The scenery is gorgeous, the wildlife is abundant (and non- threatening) and the paddling is easy. Shannon was great and provided everything we needed with gracious hospitality. I'd much rather take a chance on seeing birds and critters in their natural environment than ride some noisy boat with a ton of other folks and watch them get fed marshmallows for my entertainment. This will be a lifelong memory-I just wish I'd put the sunscreen on instead of leaving it in the car!
What a great place to rent kayaks for exploring the Louisiana wetlands. It seems like most places in the area only offer guided tours, so this was just what we were looking for to explore on our own. We stopped in on our way to New Orleans from Florida and rented a tandem kayak for $50 to paddle on Cane Bayou. The folks were very nice and we were on the water in no time. It only took 2 hours to get down to Lake Pontchartrain and back, but in the Summer sun that was plenty. We saw several fish jumping and birds along the shore. The route took us from a densely wooded area right to the lake. It was around lunch time on a Friday and we only saw one other person in a fishing boat. It was definitely a fun way to get out on the water.
I am so happy I found Bayou Adventure on the internet. Shannon, the owner, was just about the friendliest, most helpful person I've ever met (love the southern hospitality). On day one we rented our bikes and off we went enjoying the best day (and I must add how reasonable the hire rates are). Day two , we were back- this time to kayak on the Lacombe Bayou and it was just amazing (and yes we saw an Alligator). My Dad & I packed a picnic lunch and paddled most of the morning into lunch and so enjoyed the peaceful & tranquil sounds & sights of the Bayou- (the Alligator was a bit of a jolt- but exciting is the word that struck me...my dad? not so sure). I highly recommend paying a visit to Shannon at Bayou Adventure- she will set you up and sort your gear and have you off an adventure you wouldn't want to miss.
Hard to believe this is the first review as the owners and what they have to offer is so great. We took a guided tour of Bayou Cane and thoroughly enjoyed paddling the backwaters. Lots of Bald Cypress, trailing Spanish moss and the occasional alligator and turtle. We saw houses on some of the backwaters which were rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina and, although on land, they were on cement pillars. It was hard to believe the storm surge worked so far inland. After our interesting guided paddle, we returned and rented bikes from owner Shannon Villemarette for a ride along part of the bicycle trail called “the Trace”. Nice to have such flat terrain for cycling. Although Shannon is also a Justice of the Peace we didn't take up an additional option of getting married by her.
