This tour was recommended by a friend from the New Orleans area and I am glad we did it. Our guide Brandon was very knowledgeable and fun. We will recommend this tour to friends.
We had gone on a different swamp tour in Slidell earlier in the week and saw a few alligators but the swamp was very flooded so not much to see. We had drove by this place on our way to lunch on the last day before leaving and had about 2 hrs to kill. We dropped in to see if there was any availability and in 15 minutes were on a swamp boat. Nolan wad a great guide, he is from the swamps and has been around them his whole life. He was very informative with history of the area as well as the wildlife we were experiencing. We saw alot of alligators, birds, turtles and a couple of raccoons. Great tour, nice people and very reasonable price, go do it!
Booked a tour on Groupon for a group of 4. It was a great price for the experience! We made this a a stop on our way out of New Orleans, since it's right off of I-10 about 30 minutes out. Brandon was our tour guide, and he was great! Really informative and practiced. You could tell talking about the swamp and the animals there was something that he was not only really comfortable with, but also passionate about. We spotted many gators, birds, and raccoons. Also, they brought on board turtles and a baby gator that everyone got to pass around and touch. When our actual tour ended, he walked a couple of folks back to see the giant snapping turtle they have on site. Really cool! All in all, it was a nice trip. Beer for sale in the office too ;) Thanks Brandon!
Brandon was a very fun boat captain guide! Not only did he really know A LOT of information about the wildlife of the manchac swamp, he even gave us some real hands on learning too!
Recommended by a young tourist at our hotel. Plenty of Parking, no need to pay extra for shuttle from town. Guide was really 'hands on" and let the people touch an alligator, turtle, snake to name a few of the animals/reptiles. It was a beautiful setting and worth the price.
Interesting visit superbly commented by dedicated personel. You leave there with a sense of having learned what a Cajun swamp is. Merci Brian.
Absolutely loved the swamp tour!! It was a little cold the for gators but we still saw several. Our guide brought plenty of creatures along and was very knowledgeable about the community and the critters. I highly recommend you check it out.
We visited Cajun pride swamp tours in Jan 2015 with our two young children,we throughly enjoyed every bit about the whole tour from the beginning to the end,we got to see some gators and the adorable raccoons waiting for their marshmellows. Our tour guide was fantasticWe would recommend this tour to all ages and we will definitely be going back when we visit New Orleans again.Chaplin Family
We took this trip from our hotel in New Orleans. They picked us up at the door, drove us to the Swamp, gave us that tour, took us to a plantation, then took us back to our hotel. The Swamp tour was a lot of fun. Being February, there aren't very many big gators out right now so we didn't get to see them being fed from the side of the boat but Tom did a great job telling us about things in the swamp and the history of people in the swamp. We got to see some smaller gators, lots of turtles, Egrets, and raccoons. Tom brought a small gator on the boat for us to handle and pass around and he brought marshmallows to feed the raccoons. It was a great tour and I recommend it.
If you are limited for time and want a basic trip out to the swamps from New Orleans, this trip is worth doing. The reserve is located around 45 minutes out of New Orleans and the company runs regular boats into the swamp, which is right next to the I10 freeway. The guides are knowledgable and they provide ongoing commentary that does not stop during the entire trip. There can be up to 30 or 40 people on the boats as well, so you don't really get any peaceful or silent moments in the swamp lands, which would have been good for reflection time. The swamp is right next to the I10 freeway and the allegedly wild animals are regularly fed marshmallows by the guides, so you get to see them. Therefore, this place did have a bit of a theme park feel to it, which I felt was unnecessary. We saw several racoons that have a major sugar addiction. I am not 100% comfortable supporting a situation where sweets are fed to animals in the wild. You do have to wonder whether this is healthy for the animals in terms of potential diabetes and tooth decay, not to mention that they may occasionally get eaten by an alligator for the entertainment of lazy tourists. Having said that, the swamp itself is quite beautiful. If I wanted to see the swamp again, I'd probably go for something that is more off the beaten track or part of a national park.
We took the swamp tour at the beginning of February. They warned us that it might be too cold for gators to be out. But our guide was still hopeful. We saw raccoons, a few birds and even a couple of very small gators. I really wish I remembered the guide's name because he's really what made the tour. He saw the eye of a gator peeking out of a bunch of green muck from across the river. I didn't even see it until he got the boat right up next to it and we could see the outline of the body just under the surface of the water. But we did also see a small gator out on a branch above the water! The guide was very knowledgeable about anything and everything concerning the bayou. The company owns that part of the swamp and spend a lot of time keeping it clean and taking care of it, which I think is very awesome. It wasn't super exciting since it was too cold for the big gators, which is understandable, but it was still a beautiful bit of swamp to see.
Note that this tour is more for people who don't really get out into 'real' nature much. As an avid nature-lover, I found myself remaining seated while some other tour members rushed from side to side to see gators and raccoons eat marshmallows. But nevertheless, I can't really give Cajun Pride Tours a bad rating because it was ultimately a fun little excursion outside of the city. We got to hear some lore, see a bunch of alligators, experience an interesting change in scenery, and hold a baby alligator that had been chilling (literally) in the on-board cooler. So that adds up to an ultimate win.
This company has large comfortable boats. The guide was very informative and knowledgeable. We didn't see alligators because it was too cold and they were smarter than us! Nevertheless we did see some swamp life and enjoyed the tour.
With all the swamp tours to choose from, I'm glad we chose this one! The boat was slow and relaxing, a nice change of pace from the French Quarter. Our guide was funny and very informative. And yes, we saw many alligators! I would highly recommend this tour.
We took the tour on February 7th and it was a beautiful day for it. Brandon was our tour guide and I must say it was a lot fun. The highlight of the tour for me was getting to hold the baby alligator, cutest thing ever and surprisingly soft. Brandon was very informative and entertaining. He also brought other creatures for us to hold and touch - 5 turtles, a couple of snakes & crawfish. We also saw a couple of alligators, real ones, not stuffed (i think the previous reviewer had one too many hurricanes), few birds and the raccoon family, who also love marshmallows! I totally recommend this tour. We also did the plantation tour after the swamp tour, we chose the Oak Alley Plantation and it was beautiful and majestic.
