All of my life I have wanted to tour this home, and I have finally done so! It was worth the wait, I could not have imagined a more beautiful home.The tour was filled with intriguing facts about this plantation and the others in this sugar cane farming area. The home is filled with amazing family heirlooms and stunning furniture kept for many generations in the Shaffer family.I am looking forward to going again to bring my family to enjoy.If you live in the area or just traveling through, do not miss out!

Simply a fascinating and delightful tour! History buffs and non-history buffs alike will enjoy this tour. A must see!

We live an hour west of Schriever and have passed this beautiful old home many times, wondering about the history. When the Schaffer's opened it to tourist we knew we wanted to go there. We went today Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) and I brought Mardi Gras beads to place on the Mardi Gras tree!Susan Schaffer and family live in the home. You felt more than welcomed there, such a nice lady. The home has wonderful history and is "comfortable" not stuffy like some of the Antebellum homes we have been to. This home feels like you could sit out on the porch and it would comfort you. We loved it and highly recommend touring it.

If you are in the Houma area, the tour of Ardoyne Plantation is a definite treat to experience. Mrs. Susan Shaffer is a gracious host, as she invites you into her very own home in order to provide you with the history of a family who has occupied this house for well over 120 years. Her storytelling of previous generations of Shaffer's, as well as her explaining the history of the artifacts and the heirlooms in the home is quite compelling. The history of the industrious landowners who built this plantation is quite interesting. The only thing that would have made the narrative better would be if a little more information could be given on the laborers who cultivated the land. With three pre-teens girls in my group, who were all captivated by romance of the lives of the aristocracy of the day, I felt compelled to remind them of the reality of the poor immigrant workers who used there work on the plantation to build their own American dream. The two stories go hand in hand, as each one requires the other to exist. Overall very well done tour.

I have visisted this area since I was born. My family would always pass Ardoyne, and I always thought I would live there some day. I was so happy to see the Shaffers open the doors to tours, and I have been several times since they have opened. The plantation is wonderful and a great example of post slavery living in Southern LA. Because of the family connections along the highway, 311 the Shaffers are able to offer a great story but a great history to share. My family always thinks that we are personal firends with the Shaffers, and hope that Ardoyne can be shared with more people. If you are in Southern LA, this is a must see!

This was a great visit for my sister and me. We have seen many antebellum homes, but Ardoyne is one of a kind. The entrance tweaks your interest immediately. The host gives wonderful facts about the family that has owned this home for generations. This is a must see to understand the life ofthe plantation owner post-Civil war. Thanks to the family for sharing this treasure with us.

My wife and I grew up in the Houma area and always loved Ardoyne Plantation. We are so glad it is finally open for tours! We were in for the holidays from Florida and Susan gave us a great tour and the house was beautiful. The house had so much history and stories and is quite the gem of the area. A must stop if you love plantations!

Enjoyed the house and also the history was told by the owner. The house was comfortable I've been on some tours where you are either hot or freezing in the houses. I would say it's a must see.

My husband and I have been to Houma the last few years for the Voice of the Wetlands Festival and were excited to find out that this beautiful home is now open to the public for tours. What a magnificent experience!!! And especially exceptional because Susan Shaffer and her family, direct descendants of the family who purchased the land and had the home built, live in the home and Susan conducts the tours. Susan was spectacular and shared so much history of her ancestors and their plantation life. Unlike other plantations open to the public, rather than bring in furniture and other items that were similar to that period, this house has the original furniture, ledgers, handmade items, etc. Can you imagine what was/is stored in the attic? Listen to Susan tell you about the boots what are now on display in the office. We learned that The Old Green Store just down the road was Ardoyne's general store. Very engaging tour. Susan's knowledge and hospitality truly exceeded our expectations. We plan on going to Houma next year and going back to Ardoyne. Ardoyne Plantation was used as a site (both in/outdoors) for a number of movies.

Friendly and informative tour!The privately owned home offers tours by the lady of the house. The history of the house and some of the surrounding area is given. Interesting history of the family is included!

On a Girl trip and choice this tour, what a wonderful tour. Historic, beautiful and full of stories. A must do!!! Tour guide is a family member, what a wonderful treat.

Ardoyne Plantation was one of the best plantation tours that I have visited in a while. Mrs. Susan Shaffers is a great story teller and a true Southern lady. She keeps your attention with her stories about the families history and explains the changes that have taken place over the years. If you are in the Houma area, you must stop by and see what makes this plantation one of a kind.

My family and I have always thought the home was beautiful when passing by while visiting Houma. We were so excited to see it open for tours. We were not disappointed. It was awesome that the house is still family owned, the tour is given by a family member that lives in the house and has tons of great inside facts about the area and the house which gives such a personal touch. Definitely stop by if you are in the area!
