key cave national wildlife refuge

The cave has been closed down to the public for a few years now which was the main feature. Now it is more similar to a prairie field.

I drove out to this remote location following the signs down rough dirt and gravel roads, which turned out to be in the middle of farming country. When I got to the observation point I was looking at a field of mostly dead weeds. Maybe I didn't know what I was looking for, but then, there was nothing to tell me what to look for, so I didn't get it. I dutifully got out my binoculars and looked around, but the most interesting thing that I saw were a nice pair of buzzards circulating overhead. Being afraid that they knew something that I didn't I returned to my vehicle and made a hasty exit.

I'm not a huge bird-watcher, which is what this place is designed for. There are some ok paths to walk, but not what I'd call real hiking. Enjoy the large viewing platform.
