The Hampton Cove golf course is pristine and well taken care of, and is connected to a beautiful multi-use public Greenway along the Flint River for biking and hiking. On June 12th, in the evening, my 3 year old, 92 pound, female Rottweiler, Zoe, was swimming in a pond on this golf course which is very close to the Greenway, and got sucked into an uncovered water intake that was covered with water in the pond. She drowned a horrible death. It took less than a minute for her to disappear into the intake. We found her decaying, bloated, scrapped up, bloody body three days later at the end of the intake on the Flint river bank about 100 yards away. When I told the Hampton Cove golf course management what happened and how dangerous it was for the general public, they could care less because this had happened to a “dog”. When I suggested that the intake should be covered so this never happens again, they demanded that I sign a waiver before they would make any repairs to cover the water intake. If my 92 pound dog Zoe who was a strong swimmer can die such a tragic death due to the hazardous nature of the uncovered intake in that pond, so could a young child and unsuspecting innocent wildlife, or even someone else’s dog. Management's attitude about what happened to my family and insensitivity to how this has affected us is heinous. Anyone involved with Hampton Cove management or ownership should be ashamed of how little regard they have for public safety and precious of life.

Rtj trail courses are great. We played the highland course thinking it would be a links course. Really wasn't but it was still a great course to play. The fairways were so plush it was like hitting off of carpet. The only hole in bad condition was 17 for some reason. Staff is great and go out of there way to make your day enjoyable. Greens were very fast so it took a little bit of time to get use to them. If your looking for a links trail course go down to prattville and play the senator on the trail.

My first trip to Hampton Cove. We played the Highlands course. It has a nice layout with some elevation changes and a few blind shots. Lots of dog legs. Being winter/early spring I didn't get to see the course at it full greeness and the greens themselves had been recently aerated. This is a nice addition to The RTJ Trail. Will be back for the River Course.

I played the Highlands. The Bad: The bag/cart staff did not welcome me to the course. They were too busy screwing off. There was no marshall on the course. As a result, what the score card said would take 4:16 took 4:50. The Good: The course was in excellent shape. The starter was very helpful in selecting a tee box. (Too bad many 20+ handicap golfers think they can play 6800 yard courses.) The bunkers were in great shape. The greens were a little slow, but putted true. The Great: The staff in the clubhouse was excellent. Maybe they should teach the bag/cart staff how to do their job. The beverage cart was well stocked and the "cart girl" was fun to be around. Result: Go play the course, but Huntsville CC is a nicer course and a better bargin!

While not as picturesque as other Robert Trent Jones Trail courses, this Huntsville, Alabama course has a few holes with interesting "architecture." Whether it's a long uphill par 5 that says, "bring it on," or a par 3 that requires not just putting it safely on the green, but placing it carefully - the Hampton Cove course has it! And the signature 5th hole can lead you to believe that par is makable...but then again, maybe NOT! Trying to stay out of the water (especially on the back nine) will also keep you on your toes. DON'T go for the green on 17 - it's further than you think and the wind is ALWAYS in your face! I warned you.

Played this course on part of my golf trip thru Alabama. Great course, was not my favorite Robert Trent Jones Course, but with good friends, it was an enjoyable course. I might would skip this course on the next trip, so I can golf a different one!

Hampton Cove has become vastly overrated. It is not maintained as well as it once was. It is my least favorite of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. It does not compare to the other RTJ courses in Alabama. Plus the prices are a little steep for this course. It is in my mind not even the nicest course in the Huntsville area.
