powhatan courthouse state park

Great old courthouse that been kept just like it was in the 1900's. This will take you back to your childhood days. If you're looking genealogy information, be sure and visit the Lawrence County Archives located just across the street. Worth the drive to see it !

Very few towns with a population of 72, yes seventy two, have a first class museum. The restored buildings include a courthouse, jail, church, school and log cabin home. The whole thing is very well done and the Rangers are very friendly and helpful. The Northeast Arkansas Archives are also located here and are certainly worth a visit from anyone with ancestors from this area.

I have always been curious about this park so when I heard about the all day events at the Powhatan Courthouse State Park on the radio I thought I would check it out. Didn't think it would be all that great since it is such a small park, I was so wrong. Me and my 20 year old daughter took a guided tour of the buildings and grounds, made christmas ornaments, and participated in a mock trial!! While dressed in period clothing, the staff were extremely friendly and very informative. We are already making plans to attend again next year with the whole family.

Powhatan state park is a marvel. Lush, green, and exciting. I like the remoteness of it. I like how it feels like the past.

You can find this little gem on your way to Lake Charles State Park. While this is a small attraction don't pass it up. Take a break and browse the buildings and court house and read the history of this small town. The court house in itself is a piece of beauty to look at. It's a bit like Bodie Calif, "the town that time forgot". or in time a town that has been forgotten. Do not drive for hours thinking this is a huge attraction, but if you are in the area do now pass it up as it is interesting.

Driving along and then you see it. Several sights in the area. Park the car once.

I have not been to the Courthouse. I have read that they have ghost there and they do have ghost tours during October. They also give several diffferent types of classes on pearls/stringing and such
